Actor Chrisann Pereira, who was allegedly framed in a drugs case in April and jailed in Sharjah, is back home. She was acquitted by a court in June but returned home only in the wee hours of Thursday. Her brother Kevin Pereira posted a heartening video on social media giving a glimpse of their emotional reunion.

In the video, Chrisann hugged her father as he received her at the Mumbai airport, and soon broke down. Her brother gave her a warm welcome and kissed her forehead to comfort her. Chrisann’s mother also surprised her by getting their pet dog along, which left the actor smiling.

“Chrisann is finally back and reunited with us I know I had announced in June that she would be back but it took slightly longer and she’s finally back,” her brother Kevin captioned the post. Their family and friends congratulated the family and also welcomed Chrisann back home.

Chrisann also spoke to HT and revealed how she survived the ordeal in Sharjah, “Every day I would just say ‘I have to survive today’… I would wake up with that intention. Once I spoke to my parents 17 days in, they gave me hope, and updates every single day on my case. I had people in the jail I used to talk to, I would workout to keep my mental health okay in jail. I danced to no music at all, just to keep it going.”

Kevin, in another post informed that Chrisann would be meeting the commissioner of police, Mumbai on Thursday morning, with a press conference also arranged for the media. He also thanked everyone for supporting them and creating awareness about his sister’s ordeals.

27-year-old Chrisann Pereira was arrested by the Sharjah police on April 1 after a Mumbai bakery owner, Anthony Paul, allegedly framed her in a drugs case. Paul made his friend Rajesh Borate to pose as talent manager Ravi and approached the actor who has previously worked in films Sadak 2 and Batla House.

Ravi allegedly told Pereira to attend an audition for an international web series in Sharjah for which tickets and hotels were booked. On April 1, when she was to leave for Sharjah, Ravi handed her a memento with drugs hidden in it. The accused then tipped off the Sharjah police who arrested the actor. A probe by Mumbai Crime Branch revealed that Paul was allegedly upset with Pereira’s mother over a fight they had during Covid and planned this as revenge.

Her family fought to prove her innocence, and eventually, after nearly four weeks, she was granted bail on April 28. However, she couldn’t leave the country as she did not get her passport back. The delay in the legal proceedings had prompted her family to express their concerns about her mental health, requesting authorities to get her home soon.
