Singer-turned-politician Babul Supriyo recently gave the internet a wholesome laugh after sharing a video of his kids attempting what many adults still dream of—meeting MS Dhoni at his farmhouse in Ranchi. Unsurprisingly, the attempt failed, but not without drama, name-dropping, and a lot of comedy. “I was trolled,” said the minister.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Babul shared the clip with the caption, “Once upon a time in front of MS Dhoni’s house gate in Ranchi.” The video features his daughter Naina and her cousin Golu, who were visiting Ranchi with their grandparents and stumbled upon the holy gates of Thala’s farmhouse.”
Introducing the tiny duo, Babul wrote, “This is my little one Naina and her cousin brother Golu… and this is the GATE of Thala.” What followed next was a masterclass in desperate fandom.
According to Babul, the kids first tried sweet-talking the watchman. When that didn’t work, they pulled out the ultimate weapon—his visiting card. “Spoke to the watchman, gave him my card, said I am also a minister… blah blah blah,” he confessed, adding that the strategy failed miserably.
The kids then called him for backup, hilariously name-dropping every person they could think of to somehow get Dhoni’s number. Babul had to break the hard truth: “Very few people have his number and he seldom uses a phone.” That’s when things turned ugly—for him.
“Result: I was brutally bullied and trolled with messages and voice notes for being ‘A DUMBO’,” he joked, adding that the incident only highlighted Dhoni’s cross-generational stardom.
Currently, Babul Supriyo serves as West Bengal’s Minister for Information Technology & Electronics, Public Enterprises, and Industrial Reconstruction under the Mamata Banerjee-led government.
