Actor Aparshakti Khurana’s recent comments about the ‘PR game’ unfolding behind-the-scenes after the blockbuster success of Stree 2 drew the ire of his co-star Shraddha Kapoor’s fans. Aparshakti appeared to hold back, as he expressed frustration with the war for maximum credit that began in the aftermath of the film’s success. In a new interview, the actor admitted that he was caught in a sombre mood when he made those comments, but admitted that he received several strong comments from Shraddha’s fans.

In an interview with Shubhankar Mishra, Aparshakti said that it is understandable that Shraddha and Rajkummar Rao are receiving the lion’s share of the credit, as they play the film’s protagonists. “Shraddha is one of the most-followed people on social media, and her fan base is amazing. And I absolutely understand why she has so many fans, because everything that she does is so organic and effortless. Nothing is pretentious about her. They just caught me on the wrong foot. If I truly felt bad about it, I would’ve stayed quiet,” he said.

Aparshakti continued, “I have immense, immense, immense love for all the actors attached to the film… This film belongs to everyone, from the light man to the cameraperson. It was perhaps the wrong choice of words, but more than that, they caught me at the wrong moment.” Aparshakti said that just before the interview, he’d been asked about the Kolkata rape case, which put him in a very serious mood. Asked if he was attacked by Shraddha’s fans on social media after his statement, he said, “I didn’t get abused, but I would get comments like, ‘Film toh Shraddha ki hai (It’s Shraddha’s film)’.” Aparshakti said that if audiences feels this way, they must be right.

Aparshakti had said that the joyous success of Stree 2 should’ve been celebrated, but it was marred by the infighting between Shraddha and Rajkummar Rao’s camps. “See this is a PR game. If your channel goes and asks audience, the original audience on street, are they saying this? I want to know that. So, this is a PR game, I don’t want to comment on it. I love each and every actor of my film. I am attached to them. In such a happy space, where the film has gotten so much love and success, this can come across as slightly unpleasant,” he’d told Zoom.

Recently, at the SCREEN launch event, Shraddha addressed the credit war for the film’s success, and said, “I believe it was a fabulous team effort. It was pure cinematic joy.” Stree 2 is one of the highest-grossing Indian films of all time.
