Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap’s problem solving method when it is about actors demanding something is to lower himself so much that the those involved in the crisis feel embarrassed by the end of it. Kashyap, considered one of the sharpest Hindi filmmakers of the times, said his intention is just to mount movies, tantrums and fights aside.

Citing an example of making his acclaimed two-art epic gangster drama Gangs of Wasseypur, Kashyap recalled how the production encountered a problem when people in the cast demanded bigger hotel rooms. Gangs of Wasseypur had an ensemble led by Manoj Bajpayee, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Richa Chadha and Huma Qureshi, among others.

“In Gangs of Wasseypur there was one known actor and other unknown actors. Some people said they wanted a bigger hotel room, so I said okay fine, and stayed in the smallest and the cheapest room. So, suddenly that equalised everything and people were embarrassed to ask for more things, because my cameramen and I were living in the cheapest rooms, which literally was big enough to only have the bed. So, people stopped asking for more,” the filmmaker said at the Marrakech Film Festival.

Kashyap revealed that it wasn’t just in the production but also the edit table, when there was a fight to claim higher billing in the credits of the film as it was a huge multi-starrer.

“Because the film had a big cast, everyone was fighting about whose name would come on top. I put my name in the bottom at the end of the film and said you guys decide. When I did that, everyone said okay, put our names at the end. That’s my way of problem solving– I want to just make the film,” he added.

The filmmaker recently shot his untitled next starring Bobby Deol and is currently awaiting the release of his next theatrical Kennedy, starring Rahul Bhat and Sunny Leone.
