Amrita Singh told Sara Ali Khan ‘to her face’ when she gave a bad performance, Bhavana Panday’s lukewarm reaction to daughter Ananya’s Liger

Sara Ali Khan and Ananya Panday were the guests on the latest episode of Karan Johar’s Koffee with Karan and while on the show, the two actors opened up about their relationships with their mothers – Amrita Singh and Bhavana Panday. Amrita was a star in the 1980s and was a single mother to Sara and Bhavana, who is married to actor Chunky Panday, actively participates in her daughter’s decision making when it comes to her movies.

When Karan asked the women if their mothers can be “overbearing at times”, Sara said, “I don’t think overbearing is the right word,” The Atrangi Re actor spoke about her mother’s strength and how she sometimes feels the pressure of matching up to the level of her strength. “I think the only pressure of having mom as mom is that she is the epitome of strength. She is such a solid person that sometimes that fear of not matching that strength just gets to me,” she said. Amrita and Sara’s father Saif Ali Khan separated when she was quite young.

Thanking her mother for her constant support, Sara said that it is essential “to have your own sense of who you are” and said that her primary goal in her life has always been to make her mother proud but added that this isn’t the healthiest thing. “Making mom proud is definitely 99.99 % of my motivation in life. I don’t know if that’s the healthiest thing,” she said. Sara said that she will always go to her mother for fashion advice but added that “I have to be able to start doing things for me. I want to be a mother one day. I need to have this for myself. I need to have a stronger sense of who I am external to mom because she is superb but we’re different people. I might not have that level of strength but I needn’t constantly compare and bring myself down because of that, which I can do.”

Karan then brought up an incident where Sara called him because Amrita had rejected one of Sara’s performances. “Dingy (Amrita) told you to your face that you are just not good,” he recalled and Sara said, “You need that, right?”

Ananya also recalled the time when her mother watched Liger but seemingly did not enjoy the film. “She has not called or messaged me after Liger,” she recalled and when Ananya asked her about the film, she sent a text which read, “Fun!” “It was worse than any other review that the film could have gotten for me,” she said. Karan admitted that he, along with Bhavana, encouraged Ananya to take up Liger and said, “Liger is something we all stand by.” He also revealed that Sara Ali Khan was offered a song in the film which she refused.

This season of Koffee with Karan has already hosted Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol.
