As legal complications surrounding the inheritance of industrialist Sanjay Kapur’s Rs 30,000 crore estate continue to intensify following his death in June this year, actor and his ex-wife Karisma Kapoor recently made an appearance on the dance reality show Super Dancer 5. The episode, which paid tribute to the 90s Bollywood music and dance, saw Karisma reminiscing about memorable moments from her illustrious career.
During the episode, she shared a light-hearted behind-the-scenes story from the sets of Yash Chopra’s cult classic Dil Toh Pagal Hai. Interestingly, a young Shahid Kapoor, long before his acting debut, featured as a background dancer in the film, as did Super Dancer judge Marzi Pestonji. Sharing the anecdote with fellow judges Shilpa Shetty, Geeta Kapur, and Marzi, Karisma recalled how multiple retakes during the shoot of one of the film’s dance numbers were being caused by a young dancer, who turned out to be Shahid.
She said: “Something funny happened during that shoot, we kept doing retakes. Not because of me! It’s a very funny story. Now I wonder, were the mistakes happening because of Shahid or because of Marzi?” Turning to Marzi, she added with a smile, “Do you remember? After every cut, I used to say, ‘Guys, why aren’t you getting the shot right? This is really tough!’ And there was this little young guy standing at the back who kept saying, ‘Sorry’ — and that was Shahid! But now I feel like it was Marzi who was making all the mistakes, and you were blaming him!” Marzi responded with a laugh, “See, anything wrong back then and I used to blame Shahid!”
While the episode was filled with a lot nostalgia, the backdrop remains more serious for Karisma Kapoor. The legal dispute over her ex-husband Sanjay Kapur’s vast estate is growing increasingly complex. Her lawyer, senior advocate Mahesh Jethmalani, addressed the matter publicly, stating that Karisma’s only concern is the well-being of her children. “Karisma Kapoor doesn’t want anything for herself. The entire aim of this litigation is to secure her children in the manner in which her late ex-husband wanted them to be secure — which is as per a trust deed that dealt with his assets in India, his corporate assets in India, and by and large, his assets abroad,” he said.
