Director Imtiaz Ali latest film Amar Singh Chamkila, based on the life of the slain Punjabi singer, has received a lot of acclaim and since the film's release, fans have shown a keen interest in trying to learn more about the life of the singer who was shot dead at the age of 27. Chamkila was the highest selling artist of Punjab and was popular for his on-stage partnership with his second wife Amarjot. Recently, Amandeep Kaur, Chamkila's oldest daughter from his first marriage, expressed her disappointment towards the film and said that she was upset with Imtiaz Ali. In a chat with YouTube channel Switch, Amandeep said that she was only five when her father was shot. Talking about the film, she shared that the family gave a lot of information to the director which was not included in the film. Amandeep said that it was her mother Gurmail Kaur who performed the last rites of Chamkila but Imtiaz did not show it properly in the film. Gurmail added that even though Imtiaz showed the actual photograph of the funeral, he did not dedicate a scene where her character could be seen crying. My bua, chacha, no one was shown," shared Amandeep. She then added, "We are upset with him. How could he do this?" Amandeep said that despite meeting them for the film, Imtiaz did not even show the photos of Chamkila's daughters in the closing credits. Amandeep and Gurmail also shared that after Chamkila's death, they spent a few years in legal battles against Amarjot's family for the singer's property. Gurmail said that for all these years, they had no steady source of income in the house and this really made their life difficult. Amar Singh Chamkila was shot along with wife Amarjot in 1988.
