Amaal Mallik bats for Priyanka Chopra after she says was ‘pushed into corner, tired of politics’ in Bollywood: ‘Truth about industry needs to come out’
Priyanka Chopra said she moved to the US because she had 'beef' with people in Bollywood, was pushed into a corner and got tired of the 'politics'.

Music composer-singer Amaal Mallik on Tuesday came out in support of actor Priyanka Chopra after she said she faced opposition in the Hindi film industry as people stopped casting her in movies. Amaal said, much like Priyanka, who felt “cornered” in Bollywood, he faces the same “on a daily basis”.
Amaal took to Twitter and wrote that it is about time that Bollywood’s truth about camps, cliques, politics comes out in the open. He tweeted, “Well it’s something that I face on a daily basis. When fans ask me why I don’t do as many Bollywood films ? Now you know ;) The truth about campism, bootlicking & powerplay within #Bollywood needs to come out more often. See what they tried to do to this amazing woman 👎🏻.”

Speaking with Dax Shepherd on his podcast Armchair Expert, Priyanka Chopra shared that she was being “cornered” in Bollywood and also had some “beef” with people in the industry. It was at that time that her manager Anjula Acharia came to her rescue. Acharia saw her in a music video and called her to ask if she would be interested in building a career in music in the US.
“I was being pushed into a corner in the industry (Bollywood). I had people not casting me, I had beef with people, I am not good at playing that game so I kind of was tired of the politics and I said I needed a break. This music thing gave me an opportunity to go into another part of the world, not crave for the movies I didn’t want to get but I would require to schmooze certain clubs and cliques of people. It would require groveling and I had worked a long time by then that I didn’t feel like I wanted to do it,” Priyanka said in the interview.
Filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri and actor Kangana Ranaut also came out in support of Priyanka Chopra. Agnihotri wrote that when “big bullies” harass, some people “kneel down, some surrender, some take drugs”. The filmmaker claimed that some people have also lost their lives to the bullying, but very few, like Priyanka, have stood firm on their ground and mounted a success story.
Kangana, meanwhile, claimed Karan Johar “banned” Priyanka in the Hindi film industry and accused the filmmaker of “harassing vulnerable outsiders”.
