(Photo: Instagram/govinda_herono1/pooja_ent)The cast and the makers of the action-comedy Bade Miyan Chote Miyan — starring Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff in lead roles — are busy promoting the film ahead of its release next week. Jackky Bhagnani, who is co-producing the film, recently spoke about the praise the film’s trailer received from Govinda, who starred in the 1998 film of the same name alongside Amitabh Bachchan. The original Bade Miyan Chote Miyan was produced by Pooja Entertainment, owned by Jackky’s father Vashu Bhagnani. During a recent interview with Showsha, Jackky revealed, “Amit sir (Amitabh Bachchan) was busy but I had the opportunity to meet Chi Chi bhaiya (Govinda), a day before the trailer’s launch, at his residence. When he saw the trailer, he said, ‘Your director (Ali Abbas Zafar) is a very cool man. He has not made a film, he’s made cinema.” The new film, helmed by Ali Abbas Zafar, has no connection to the original beyond the title.

The appreciation naturally made Jackky more confident about his film. “He is a veteran and legend. I have grown up in front of him. His words gave me so much confidence. I am a creative person, who is now producing. We are working day and night so that the audience loves our craft and praises us,” said Jackky, as he turned to Ali, who was also present during the interview. Addressing the director, Jackky said, “Ali, I am really proud of what you have done with Bade Miyan Chote Miyan. (sic)”

A pleasantly surprised Ali, who wasn’t aware of Jackky’s conversation with Govinda before this, reacted by saying, “Both Mr Bachchan and Govinda are legends. I am feeling very happy hearing what Govinda said about the film’s trailer. I am taking it as a lesson. I hope when they watch the film, they feel proud that we have taken their legacy forward in the right way (sic).”
Recently, Vashu reminisced about the time when he shot Bade Miyan Chote Miyan (directed by David Dhawan) and spoke about how Govida was ‘overshadowing’ Amitabh in the film. In an interview with Connect FM Canada, he said, “If Amit ji wasn’t in the film, Govinda wouldn’t have had the opportunity to shine like he did. It was because of Amit ji that Govinda garnered more appreciation.”
Bade Miyan Chote Miyan features Akshay and Tiger as two Indian army officers on a mission to combat India’s most dangerous enemy, played by Prithviraj Sukumaran. Sonakshi Sinha, Manushi Chillar, and Alaya F also star in the film, which is set to release on April 10.
