Akshay Kumar speaks about Toilet Ek Prem Katha after Jaya Bachchan’s criticism: ‘Only someone stupid would criticize these films’

At the press conference of Kesari 2, Akshay Kumar expressed his point of view about Jaya Bachchan criticizing the title of his 2017 film Toilet: Ek Prem Katha.

Actor Akshay Kumar has always taken up projects that address a social issue, calling it just a small effort on his part. At a press conference for his upcoming film Kesari 2, he recently gave his take on agenda driven films facing criticism.

Recently, Jaya Bachchan had slammed his film Toilet Ek Prem Katha. At an event, the veteran actress had told India TV that she would never see the film. She said, “Just look at the title of the film. I would never go to watch a film with such a name. Is that really a name?”

Unaware of this remark from Jaya Bachchan, Akshay Kumar shared his views at the press conference of Kesari 2. He said, “I don’t think anybody has criticized those films, only a fool would criticize my films like Padman, Toilet Ek Prem Katha, Airlift, Kesari. Only someone stupid would criticize these films. I made these films with all my heart, they educate people.”

When he was informed about Jaya Bachchan’s comments the actor commented, “If she has said something, maybe it will be right. If by making a film like Toilet: Ek Prem Katha I did something wrong and if she is saying something about it, it must be right.”

Later Akshay also explained how his films have been a powerful tool of change in society. He shared, “We should always try to bring a change with our films, it’s always an effort. Toilet Ek Prem Katha was also an effort from our side to make sure every house should have a toilet inside their home. Even today the government is showing that film for free at various places and villages. Even Padman has been very empowering.”

Akshay Kumar’s next Kesari 2 also stars Ananya Panday and R Madhavan. Produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma, the film releases on 18th April.
