Akshay Kumar shares Twinkle Khanna’s review of his performance in Mission Raniganj: ‘I’m getting validation from my wife’
Akshay Kumar plays unsung hero Jaswant Singh Gill in Mission Raniganj. The actor spoke about the film and his performance.

As Mission Raniganj released in theatres on Friday, its star, actor Akshay Kumar, sat down with the media to discuss his latest release and the story of the unsung hero at its heart, Jaswant Singh Gill. The film is directed by Tinu Suresh Desai.
Akshay candidly shared how his wife Twinkle described his performance in the film. The actor shared that Twinkle sent him a message on his phone after watching the film while he was at the press conference. He said, “I am getting validation from my wife,” as he was distracted by his phone pinging amid the interaction. He also read out her message, “You are getting great reviews. It is an award-winning performance, I am so proud of you.”
Akshay then shared how he’s not looking at the commercial aspect of the film and wants people to stop measuring a film’s success by its box office performance. He said that it puts a lot of pressure on him.
The last few releases of Akshay failed to work at the box office before OMG 2, which had the actor in an extended cameo, received box office approbation and positive critical reception. Talking about choosing a film that celebrates the life of an unsung hero, Akshay said, “We are going through a very nice phase where people are doing all kinds of films and they are working. I have done this kind of film and that kind (masala potboilers) as well. I just say don’t pressurise a film by thinking that this film will do that business. When it comes to me, as I said, I can do that kind of film and get that kind of (box office) numbers also. I am happy doing this kind of film also, something that brings a change in the society, but they (the audience) like me in other films also. It’s a mixed bag.”
Akshay also shared that he watched films of his contemporaries — Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan and Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2 — and is happy for their success. He said, “They are great, very good. These films are of different genres. The best part is that they are doing Rs 400, Rs 500 crore to Rs 600 crore, which is so good, we all should applaud. It is good for the industry, the industry is booming.”
