Aishwarya Rai’s sister-in-law Shrima says she was ‘hurt’ after she was portrayed as a ‘shady character’: ‘Some trolls started comparing unnecessarily’
Shrima Rai said that she was immensely hurt when trolls started attacking her and hence, she decided to put out a statement to clarify the rumours.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s personal life has garnered significant attention from both fans and trolls ever since she entered the public eye over three decades ago. A couple of months ago, trolls started attacking her sister-in-law Shrima Rai on social media, accusing her of gaining fame from Aishwarya’s name. While Shrima put out a statement at the time, in a recent interview, she shared that people started painting her as a “shady character” and this was completely “untrue.” Shrima said she found this to be completely “unfair” and found the comparison to be completely unnecessary. Shrima did not mention Aishwarya’s name in the conversation but did speak about the toll it took on her well being a couple of months ago.
In a chat on Mohsinaa Ahmad’s YouTube channel, Shrima said that back in November, “something was thrown completely out of context” and before she knew it, she was being painted as this “new character in this Bollywood saga that they were writing about.” “It was almost like when you watch those Indian TV dramas, a new character came and that new character was Shrima Rai. That’s how I felt,” she said.
Shrima Rai said she was “immensely hurt” as they were completely ignoring the career that she had made for herself as a blogger and kept dragging her into this unnecessary controversy. Without mentioning Aishwarya’s name, Shrima said that she did not want her connection to the family to be her “calling card.” “I didn’t want that to be my calling card and it’s one thing to have the support of whoever you are related to, that’s something else. But if you are doing it on you own and you own that, it’s very unfair for someone to take that away from you without having an interview,” she said and added, “So when I saw the wrong things written about me, I did put out a clarification.”
Shrima mentioned that she was being painted as a “shady character” and she was “not okay with that.” She mentioned that after her clarification, her truth was out but she had to face a lot of trolls. “Some trolls started comparing unnecessarily. Like there’s no way you can compare one woman’s journey to another’s journey,” she said and added, “There’s no one who is saying to say that that woman hasn’t done what she has done and accomplished amazing amazing things. Of course, respect is there for that but it doesn’t mean you have to disrespect somebody else. Just because you are a fan of that person, doesn’t mean you have to be a troll of this person.”
The controversy erupted after a few trolls on social media started raising questions why Shrima Rai never posted about Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. She shared a cryptic note that read, “Never jealous. Never intimidated. Never in competition. I got my own blessings.” Shrima had previously shared a picture of a bouquet sent by Shweta Nanda that raised even more speculation. To silence the haters, Shrima wrote, “Facts. My birthday was November 21 and as usual flowers were sent. I thanked everyone with a shout out. Before I became a blogger/ content creator I was a banker in Wealth Management for several years. I have also been a Gladrags Mrs. India Globe 2009. Post 2017, I transitioned into blogging. I have NEVER tried to open any business with anyone’s name. I am clarifying things because these are facts. I have built an independent career as a content creator for years on my own and as a woman I find it in poor taste of anyone to try to tear that fact down. For this my husband, mother in law and parents can vouch for that. As a mother it is extremely important to me that facts are clear when my name is involved.” Later, she deleted these posts.
