The music of Karan Johar’s directorial debut Kuch Kuch Hota Hai has a great recall value among millennials. The entire album of the Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol starrer still has many takers. However, creating the music for the movie was not an easy task for the music composer duo Jatin-Lalit. They were helped by filmmaker and Karan Johar’s close friend Aditya Chopra not just in one but a couple of songs.

Latit Pandit recently shared how Aditya Chopra stepped in when he and Karan were stuck on just one line of the song “Yeh Ladka Hai Deewana”. He revealed it was Aditya who came up with the beginning of the song and sailed them through the task of finalising it.

In a recent interaction with Bollywood Hungama, Lalit shared, “We got stuck in this song badly. The introduction brief of the song was too long and I even told Karan that the introduction would get too long. But he insisted that he needed it. So, I said ok. But when I started making the song, I couldn’t come up with anything. I was just stuck on one line, which Karan and I used to like. It was the tune to ‘Yeh ladka hai deewana hai deewana’. So, this is where Aditya Chopra stepped in. He asked me, ‘Atak kyun gaye ho gaane mein, kya ho raha hai (Why are you stuck on the song? What is happening?)”

Aditya liked what Lalit had and suggested a tune for the beginning of the song. “Then he came up with the tune for, ‘Haye haye re haaye ye ladka..’ He sang that part and asked me to join with the tune that I had. He is a master in it. Even the words ‘Haaye Haaye’ were written by Adi,” added the music composer.

During the interaction, Lalit also revealed that the film’s song, “Tujhe Yaad Na Meri Aaye” was originally suggested for a situation in Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. But since it couldn’t make it to the album of the film, Pamela Chopra, Yash Chopra’s wife, told Karan to take the song from Jatin-Lalit and use it in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.

Lalit Pandit shared, “It was a song that we initially wanted to pitch for a situation for Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. Then, everyone liked the song a lot. When we first sang it at Yashji’s house, (Anand) Bakshi sahab had tears in his eyes. We sang it in Punjabi then. He understood the expression and told us, ‘Aapko pata nahi hai bachchon aap kya gaa rahe ho’ (You don’t realise what you have created)’. Pam ji remembered the song and told Karan to ask us for the song as she thought it would be appropriate for the situation in his film.”

The music composer credited Karan Johar for “uplifting” the song with his direction. He also revealed that the folk voice that we hear at the beginning of “Tujhe Yaad Na Meri Aaye” was found because of Pamela Chopra. She told Jatin-Lalit to meet a Punjabi teacher, Manpreet Akhtar, who had a “great folk voice”. They ended up listening to her and eventually signed her to sing it.
