7 years of Sultan: Anushka Sharma was scared before reading the script, wondered what she’ll do in a Salman Khan film
Ali Abbas Zafar directed Sultan clocks seven years today. Anushka Sharma in an earlier interview had spoken about being worried whether she will have anything to do in a Salman Khan film.

Salman Khan and Anushka Sharma-starrer Sultan was released on this day, seven years ago. The Ali Abbas Zafar-directed sports drama not only showed the journey of wrestlers but also the complexities between a couple, and how insecurity can wreak havoc in a relationship. While Salman was appreciated for his portrayal of the ups and downs of a sportsman, Anushka surprised the world with her power-packed performance. She not only aced the part of a wrestler but also a strong and empowered woman. However, the actor had confessed that she was initially scared about the film before she heard the narration, as she didn’t know what would she be doing in a ‘Salman Khan film’.
In an interview during the promotion of Sultan, Anushka was asked about what impressed her about the film. “Honestly, I didn’t know what kind of a film it would be before I got the script. And like we all think, I too thought Salman Khan film… kya hoga, what would I have to do. I was actually scared and was hoping that Adi (Aditya Chopra) sends me something nice,” she told Bollywood Hungama,
She added that since Aditya Chopra knows her for the longest, she was hopeful. And when Ali narrated the script to her, she was very happy. “Apart from the role, I was really happy with the journey of the film emotionally. After the narration, I spoke deeply about the film with Ali, and its relevance in life. That’s the magic of cinema that we continue to talk about the film.”

Anushka also narrated how people, especially women lauded her part and the stands she takes in life. The actor shared that she was told how a few ‘posh aunties’ started clapping at her dialogues in a multiplex. “So every woman of all age groups and society connected with it,” she added.
The actor also spoke about the chemistry with Salman Khan, which was much loved by the audience. Crediting Ali for creating an amazing relationship between the two on paper, she said, “It is a simple and rooted chemistry. It’s also high on emotions. Even when they are not together, you feel emotional towards their love story. It also got to do with the fact that there’s something charming about Salman on screen. It adds to everything. They both are so different and because of that, the chemistry works.”
Celebrating the seventh anniversary of Sultan, Ali Abbas Zafar took to social media to share a note. “7 years #Sultan and love keeps increasing.Thank you ❤️ @yrf @beingsalmankhan @anushkasharma @theamitsadh @randeephooda @anantvidhaat #kumudmishra @vishaldadlani @shekharravjiani @kamil_irshad_official @shanoosharmarahihai & Team Sultan,” he wrote.
