NEET UG 2023 not to be held twice a year, says NMC. (Representative image. Express photo) The National Medical Commission recently said that conducting the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) UG twice a year won’t be feasible as all MBBS seats are filled during counselling.
The Commission was responding to a letter written to it by the All India Student’s Union, a student body demanding to conduct the NEET UG twice a year.
The NMC further said it involves huge amounts of money and other resources to conduct the exam and holding it twice would put an ‘undue burden on the government exchequer.’ It suggested that candidates shall apply for the medical entrance test next year.
Meanwhile, the NMC recently withdrew the recently issued guidelines under Graduate Medical Education Regulations 2023 and invited comments from the stakeholders regarding new guidelines for Competency Based Medical Education Curriculum Regulations 2023, Minimum Standard Requirements for Establishment of New Medical College/ Increase of seats in MBBS Course Regulations 2023 and Maintenance of Standards of Medical education Regulations 2023.
