With a slight delay in beginning of the academic session, the Delhi University finally commenced this year’s academic session through CUET UG 2024 scores. The new batch of undergraduate students began their classes for the academic year 2024-25 on August 29.

Several Delhi University colleges have organised orientation day on August 29. This is done to acclimatise students to their new environment.

As per the data provided by the varsity, so far, nearly 68,000 students have enrolled for the 1559 programmes offered by the 69 colleges and departments of the Delhi University.

Meanwhile, the university plans to conduct additional allocations to fill seats optimally. As per the data provided by the varsity in an official release, a total of 65,775 admissions were confirmed in the first round with 43,067 candidates opting for upgrades and 20,829 choosing to freeze their seats. The second round saw 24,869 new allocations while 27,554 candidates secured chosen preferences through the upgrade process.

This year, Delhi University processed 5,68,20,017 unique cutoffs and ranks for the allocations for round 1 for admissions to 71,600 sanctioned seats. DU received 1,72,18,187 preferences and choices submitted by students seeking admission to various UG programmes across the different colleges. This year, the university offered admission to 90,644 candidates — nearly 19,000 more than its sanctioned capacity of 71,600 seats—to ensure all seats are optimally filled.

While the academic session is beginning now, the admission process is still ongoing, with a third round scheduled to admit students through performance-based programmes and supernumerary quotas, including those for children/widows of armed forces personnel (CW), extra-curricular activities (ECA) and sports. The third seat allocation list will be announced soon.

The session was originally slated to begin on August 1, but was delayed due to the late release of the Common University Entrance Test, Undergraduate (CUET UG) 2024. CUET UG is conducted by the National Testing Agency, which was caught in the allegations of NEET UG, UGC NET paper leak and had to thus delay the CUET UG result declaration.
