Three foreign universities are currently operating in India, and the University Grants Commission (UGC) is considering approving over 50 high-quality foreign universities to benefit students, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan informed the Parliament on Wednesday.

Responding during the Question Hour in Rajya Sabha, Pradhan highlighted that approximately 14-15 lakh Indian students study abroad, leading to a significant outflow of resources. To address this and promote higher research within India, the UGC has amended its regulations to facilitate the entry of foreign universities.

He clarified that, contrary to earlier figures, three foreign universities are already operating in India. Additionally, over 50 foreign universities are in discussions with various state governments and have applied for UGC approval.
