NTA has changed the host website address for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2024. The new website is jeemain.nta.ac.in.

Earlier, all the information was uploaded on jeemain.nta.nic.in -- a website that was maintained by the National Informatics Centre (NIC). However, the NTA has now developed its own platform for JEE Main 2024.

The JEE Main 2024 session 1 admit card will also be released at the official NTA website — jeemain.nta.ac.in.

IIT Mandi is inviting applications for short-term certificate programmes in machine learning and IoT-based automation. The short-term certificate programmes are open to engineering, BCA, MCA, ITI, polytechnic, teachers, trainers and working professionals and will be offered free of cost.

Batches for the training programme in machine learning and IoT-based automation will start on January 15.

Candidates appearing for engineering entrance exam JEE Main 2024 will have to undergo frisking and biometric attendance after toilet breaks as well, according to National Testing Agency (NTA) officials.

Officials, observers, staff members and even helps serving refreshments will have to undergo the same process, they said.

“The move is aimed at ensuring there are no cases of use of unfair means or proxy attendance. We have strict mechanisms in place already but the idea is to make the exam completely foolproof to ensure there are zero incidents,” NTA Director Subodh Kumar Singh said.

The hall tickets for JEE Main 2024 session 1 will not release today, and will release three days before the exam.

The JEE Main session 1 city slip is expected to release soon, an NTA official said. For now, only the city slip for January 24 exam will be released.

As per the official statement by the placement office of IIT Bombay, “The phase-I placements (December 1-20, 2023) incorrectly reported the number of accepted Rs one crore plus offers as 85. The correct number of accepted one crore plus offers is 22. All other data reported is confirmed to be correct. The Placement Office of IIT Bombay strongly regrets this mistake.”

The JEE Main city slip for the first day of session 1 will likely be issued today. In case of any issue in downloading the JEE Main exam city allotment letter, candidates can contact the official by sending an email to jeemain@nta.ac.in.

Students who are focusing on JEE Main must utilise this limited time to prepare well. Since it is nearly impossible to prepare for JEE Main within a few weeks, IIT aspirants will have to start preparing for JEE Main from now onwards, while they are preparing for Class 12 exams.

Gautam Sanyal, BE (Civil) 1968 batch, was just over 17 when he joined IIT Roorkee. While he had heard about other engineering institutes as well, he picked the institute due to its reputation and proximity to his hometown.

“My father was a doctor and posted at Jim Corbett when I was in Class 6. As his timing was odd, I decided not to pursue medicine. While my desire to serve the country made me join the Indian Army, I got admitted to IIT Roorkee after a few months. The officials were unhappy, but I had to convince them in writing that I would join the Army once I graduated. That way, I got placement before even joining the institute,” said Sanyal.

His batchmate Dinesh Pradhan also got admission in the same year and chose mechanical engineering. During those days, too, aspirants had to crack a written test in maths, physics, chemistry, drawing and general knowledge. He completed his BSc first and then later joined IIT Roorkee.

The total number of students taking admission in the Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) and Bachelor of Technology (B. Tech) courses through regional languages, in the years 2021-22 and 2022-23, were 245 and 683, respectively. This information was shared by the Minister of State in the Ministry of Education, Dr Subhas Sarkar in the Rajya Sabha.

Also, JEE Main is also being conducted in 13 regional languages which also facilitates students studying in regional languages, the minister said.

For executive programmes in Data Science, the distribution is detailed as 21 per cent in the south zone, 44 per cent in the west zone, 12 per cent in the east zone, 18 per cent in the north zone, and 6 per cent in the central zone. Some of the top institutions offering these executive programmes include ISB Hyderabad, IIT Hyderabad and NMIMS Global Access School for Continuing Education with a pan-India presence and a multifaceted approach.

Keeping up with the trends, it is also expected that India's data science education market will rise at a CAGR of 57.52 per cent, from $204.23 million in 2023 to $1.391 billion by 2028. This is while the worldwide data science education market is predicted to reach $378.7 billion by 2030, with a 25 per cent increase in demand for data scientists across industries such as healthcare, banking, and retail.

As per the report, the big data and analytics job market is expected to grow from 215K positions in 2023 to over 338K by 2028, with major recruiters such as Amazon, AWS, Bain and Company, Deloitte, Ernst & Young, and Google offering competitive yearly remuneration packages ranging from Rs 6.5 lakh to Rs 35.1 lakh.

“Organisations from all over the world are trying to expand their presence in India as the nation solidifies its position as a major global hub for data to take advantage of its enormous talent pool and fully realise the enormous potential of data analytics,” states the report.

In the Bachelor’s degree category, IITs lead the way with IIT Hyderabad taking the top rank, closely followed by IIT Delhi. Notably, IIT Guwahati is the third-best educational institute for the Bachelor’s Data Science programme. The analysis finds a regional distribution, with the south zone dominating at 35%, followed by the west zone at 27%, the east zone at 8%, the north zone at 26%, and the central zone at 4%.

IIT Bombay's position rose to 172 in 2021, but the ranking went down to 177 in 2022. However, IIT-B bounced back to the 172 position in 2023 and then jumped to 149 in 2024 — the best so far. Also, the 20th edition of the UK-based QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) World University Rankings was the first time an Indian institute (IIT-B) entered into the elite top 150 club grabbing the 149th rank.

A similar trend was spotted in IIT Delhi for the past few years, however, this year, it failed to climb the ranks. IIT Delhi grabbed the 193 position in the 2021 rankings, after which it improved its score and jumped to 185 in 2022 and 174 in 2023. However, this year, the institute’s rankings took a hit as it got the 197th spot.

The 2023 topper of JEE Advanced scored 341/ 360, which was comparatively lower in 2022 as R K Shishir, the JEE Advanced topper in 2022, scored 314 out of a total 360. It was the lowest in five years. A similar trend was seen in female toppers as the marks scored by CRL 56 in JEE Advanced 2023 was 298/ 360, which was higher than the CRL 16 from 2022’s score 277 out of 360.

Interestingly, the Covid batch of 2020 scored the most in the five-year period between 2019 and 2023. While the JEE Advanced 2020 CRL 1 holder Chirag Falor scored 352/ 360, Kanishka Mittal scored 315 marks out of 360 and bagged CRL 17.

IIT Bombay has been the most preferred IIT for JEE aspirants for the past few years. IIT Bombay has been the top choice for around 90 per cent of top 50 JEE Advanced rankers. As many as 47 out of the top 50 rankers chose IIT Bombay in 2018, while it was 42 in 2019 and 2021, and 46 in 2022 and 2023.

Only 22 IIT-Bombay students have received Rs one crore plus offers in phase I of placement held in December. Last week, the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IIT-B) announced that a total of 85 candidates had been offered salary packages greater than Rs 1 crore, which was much higher than the 25 such offers last year. However, the institute has today issued a correction.
