NMC withdraws guidelines under GMER 2023

The National Medical Commission recently withdrew guidelines under Graduate Medical Education Regulations (GMER) 2023. The said GMER 2023 guidelines were issued on June 12.

The official notification read, “Guidelines under Graduate Medical Education Regulations 2023, stands “withdrawn and cancelled” with immediate effect.”

GMER 2023 sought removal of supplementary batches for students who failed their annual exams. The 82-page guidelines also stated that the admission process will begin on August 1 and conclude on August 30, and universities shall not consider any student admitted beyond that.

The guidelines published on June 12 proposed changes in the Competency-Based Medical Education. Changes were also made to manpower requirement for research facilities in a medical college, family adoption programme admission of students under “Disability Category” in MBBS course and format for submission of information regarding admission in a medical college.

These guidelines were applicable for admission made to MBBS courses in academic year 2023-24.

Physics and Chemistry would have gotten preference over Biology in NEET UG tie-breaking system as per the GMER 2023.
