NIT Surathkal Campus (Image via X)The National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NIT-K), Surathkal conducted its Ring Presentation Ceremony on 29 November 2025 at the institute campus. The event honoured graduates from the 2020 and 2021 batches, who had completed their programmes during the COVID-19 pandemic.
A total of 1,731 students received their silver rings, either in person or through home delivery, according to an official statement.
After sharp slump in 2023-24, IIT placements improve, still below 2021-22 mark
The ceremony marked the formal recognition of 881 students from the 2020 batch and 850 from the 2021 batch. The 2020 cohort included 555 B.Tech, 247 M.Tech, 10 MBA, 10 MCA, 23 M.Sc. and 36 Ph.D. graduates, while the 2021 cohort comprised 475 B.Tech, 253 M.Tech, 17 MBA, 57 MCA, 12 M.Sc. and 36 Ph.D. graduates.
Each student was presented with a silver ring engraved with the NI-K emblem and their year of graduation. The tradition, initiated over fifty years ago by Prof AS Adke, continues to be a distinctive feature of NIT-K and is viewed as a symbol of lasting connection between the institute and its alumni.

The ceremony was attended by NIT-K alumnus Shri Madhusudhan Ekambaram, CEO and Co-founder of KreditBee, as Chief Guest. Shri Niranjan Mahabalappa, President of the NITK Alumni Association, participated as Guest of Honour. The event was presided over by Prof B Ravi, Director of NIT-K, and saw the presence of faculty, staff, and students, along with institute leadership including Prof Govinda Raj Mandela, Dean of Students Welfare, and Prof Prasanna Belur D, Dean of Alumni and Corporate Relations.

In his address, Madhusudhan Ekambaram spoke about his entrepreneurial journey, including the challenges of receiving repeated rejections—40 in total—while seeking funding for his fintech venture. He noted that self-belief and persistence were key factors in eventually securing support. His remarks underscored the importance of staying committed to one’s goals and continuing to prepare even when success appears delayed.
Guest of Honour Shri Niranjan Mahabalappa welcomed the graduates back to campus and recalled his interactions with the batches during various student activities. He acknowledged their resilience and adaptability during the pandemic period.
