NIRF Overall Ranking List 2024: The Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT M) has continued its dominance in the latest edition of the National Institute Ranking Framework (NIRF) retaining as the number one institution of the country in the overall and engineering categories. The IITs have this year too dominated the top 10 ranking in the overall category. IIT-Madras also bagged the first position in engineering for the eighth year in a row. The second position has been grabbed by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, followed by IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Kanpur at the third, fourth and the fifth spots respectively. IIT Kharagpur got the sixth place, followed by AIIMS Delhi, at seventh, IIT Roorkee and IIT Guwahati at the eighth and ninth spots. The 10th spot has been bagged by JNU, New Delhi. Last year, IIT Madras had topped with 86.69, and was followed by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore which scored 83.09. In 2023, IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay and IIT Kanpur followed at the third, fourth and fifth rank respectively. AIIMS Delhi made its marks at the sixth spot in the IIT dominated list, as IIT Kharagpur, IIT Roorkee, IIT Guwahati continued IIT dominance by securing seventh, eighth and ninth spot. Delhi's Jawaharlal Nehru University got the tenth spot. This time, in its ninth edition, three new categories have been introduced, namely ‘open universities’, ‘Skill universities’ and ‘State funded government universities’. The AICTE chairperson, Anil Sahasrabudhe, also announced that the Ministry aims to begin ‘sustainability rankings’ from next year. Additionally, this year, the evaluation criteria has also been modified. The faculty to student ratio has been changed from 1:15 to 1:10 in medical institutes, and increased from 1:15 to 1:20 in the state government universities.
