The cut-off this year for the general category candidates has increased from 720-137 last year to 720-164 this year

Students from the Delhi government's school of specialised Excellence qualified also appeared for the NEET UG 2024 exam. The pass rate of the students is 95 per cent claims Delhi Education Minister Atishi. 

Atishi said at a press conference that 1,414 students from Delhi government schools qualified the NEET UG this year. 'The number has been increasing year after year. In 2020, a total of 569 students had qualified,' Atishi said and added that "this year's figure is almost two-and-a-half times higher.'

Kanhaiya Kumar has raised a question on why the NEET UG result was declared on June 4, the same day as the Lok Sabha election result. Originally, the result was scheduled to release on June 14, but the NTA released the result almost 10 days in advance. "NTA knew that the country will be busy watching the Lok Sabha election results and media would be busy covering that too, and that is why they released the result in the evening of June 4," he alleged.

“First the NEET exam paper was leaked and now students are alleging that there has been a scam in its results as well. Serious questions are being raised over 6 students from the same centre getting 720 out of 720 marks and many kinds of irregularities are coming to light. On the other hand, there are reports of many children committing suicide across the country after the results were announced. This is very sad and shocking.

Why is the government ignoring the voice of lakh of students? Students want answers to legitimate questions related to the rigging in the NEET exam results. Is it not the government’s responsibility to investigate and resolve these legitimate complaints?” Gandhi said.

Clearing NEET UG in her third attempt with a perfect score was a dream come true for Mumbai’s Amina Kadiwal. She will be the first doctor in her family. Aiming to study at AIIMS Delhi, Amina has not yet decided on her second and third college preferences.

“I am yet to decide about my second preference. I have to discuss it with my teachers before making any decision,” said the topper.

A native of Haryana’s Charkhi Dadri, Divyansh cracked NEET UG 2024, the results of which were declared on June 4.

Despite the competition, he relied on his teachers’ guidance rather than worrying about other students. In his first minor test, he scored a perfect 720 out of 720, boosting his confidence significantly, but later due to dengue and severe lung condition, he scored 686 out of 720.  “It demotivated me but then I was determined enough to start fresh,” he said.

The NEET UG exam was held on May 5, and Divyansh completed his syllabus on May 2. “With two days remaining, I listened to my teachers’ advice and did not study on May 3 and 4. Although I was tempted to revise, I reminded myself that if I forgot everything in three days, I wasn’t meant to be a doctor. I played football to relax. On May 5, I attempted the exam with the mindset that whatever marks I get will be by God’s grace.”

His miseries didn’t end there as he further suffered health problems.

“After recovering from the lung condition, I then contracted dengue. I was bedridden for a week due to dengue, and once I recovered, my mother fell ill. I took care of her and visited the hospital daily. Once everything was sorted, I again restarted. It took about 10-15 days to get back on track. Other students were far ahead in the syllabus, but I focused on myself and followed my teachers’ guidance.”

Tathagat Awatar knew he would score well in NEET UG 2024, but sharing the top spot with 66 others surprised him. Awatar has scored a perfect 720 marks and obtained 99.997129 percentile. His initial score after the NEET UG provisional answer key was 715, however after the revised answer key was released on June 4, the only answer marked incorrect in the provisional key came right and he scored 720. Candidates who appeared in the examination can check their respective results through the official website — exams.nta.ac.in/neet.

More than 10,000 candidates challenged the answer key on the grounds that an old version of the Class 12 NCERT textbook inaccurately states, “Atoms of each element are stable.” The correct answer is that atoms of “most” elements are stable, as stated in the new version of the NCERT Chemistry textbook.

As many as 46794 students have qualified from Delhi alone. Of them, four are in the top 100 list. They are: Mridul Manya Anand, Divyansh, Sujoy Datta and Lakshay.

The question was based on two statements. The first said: “Atoms are electrically neutral as they contain equal numbers of positive and negative charges.” The second statement said: “Atoms of each element are stable and emit their characteristic spectrum.”

Candidates were asked to choose the “most appropriate answer” from four options:

One: First is correct but second is incorrect; Two: first is incorrect but second is correct; Three: both first and second statements are correct; Four: both statements are incorrect.

The correct answer is Option 1 since the first statement is correct and the second is not since atoms of radioactive elements are not stable.

Last year, there were two students who got NEET all India rank (AIR) 1, one in 2022, three in 2021, one in 2020 and 2019 each.

In case of two or more candidates obtain equal marks/percentile scores in the NEET (UG)- 2024, the inter-se-merit shall be determined as follows:

a. Candidate obtaining higher marks/percentile score in Biology (Botany & Zoology) in the Test, followed by,

b. Candidate obtaining higher marks/percentile score in Chemistry in the Test, followed by,

c. Candidate obtaining higher marks/percentile score in Physics in the Test, followed by,

d. Candidate with less proportion of the number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in all the subjects in the Test,

Of the 67 candidates with a perfect 720 score, the majority are from Rajasthan (11), followed by Tamil Nadu (8), Maharashtra (7) and then four each from Andhra Pradesh and Bihar.

While 67 students have bagged rank 1, only 48 seats were there for open-category candidates in AIIMS New Delhi in 2023. There were a total of 132 seats in the institute with three earmarked for open-PWD category candidates, 11 for General-EWS, 32 for OBC, 18 for SC, nine for ST and one each for SC-PwD and Gen-EWS PwD. Two seats were earmarked for OBC-PwD.

NTA has clarified that all 67 students who have been given the NEET AIR 1 are not toppers. "Every student has been given an individual rank in their score card which is only available in those cards. These have been calculated on the basis of tie-breaking policies notified by NTA," a senior NTA official told indianexpress.com.

This means that while 67 students have NEET AIR 1, there is only one topper -- Ved Sunilkumar Shende from Maharashtra.

In terms of state-wise performance, Uttar Pradesh reported the highest number of qualified candidates with 1,65,047 students followed by Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu with 1,42,665, 121240 and 89,426 respectively.

The 20-year-old said that her school principal encouraged her to pursue NEET UG and her parents supported her to their entirety in this journey. “I took the drop in 2021 which was during lockdown. I used to start my day by praying to the almighty and then with revision followed by attending coaching classes till 6 pm. After that I used to study for 4-5 hours more,” said the topper who ranked AIR 1.53.

While attempting question paper, AIR 1 Divyansh from Haryana said that he used to start with simple questions first and followed by higher difficulty level questions.

Ved Sunil Kumar Shinde, a resident of Nagpur, Maharashtra, has secured All India Rank 1 by scoring a perfect 720 out of 720 in NEET UG 2024. Ved has been a regular classroom student at Allen Career Institute for the last two years. Both his parents are doctors, so Ved also wanted to become a doctor from the beginning.

"Preparing for NEET from Allen Career Institute proved to be a turning point for me. Allen's studies also helped a lot in the board exams. This was the reason that I could perform well in both places. This year I have passed Class 12 with 95.6 percent marks. I had secured 98.6 per cent marks in Class 10," Ved said.

The topper also added that he always enjoyed studying.

"It is not the case that I keep studying even if my brain gets tired. I used to study till whatever time in the night, but I used to get enough sleep. I did not sleep until I completed my daily target. I used to study for an average of 8 hours. I had made a strategy to crack NEET. I had focused completely on NCERT syllabus. I did multiple reading of the same topic and revised the notes daily. Apart from NEET, I also practiced by solving previous papers of JEE Mains. Because many times JEE Mains questions are repeated in NEET. I used to give equal time to all three subjects. This helped me a lot. I followed the guidelines given by Allen teachers for preparation. There can be no better place than Allen for studies. I have not decided yet which specialty I will pursue after MBBS," he added.

Of these 67 medical aspirants bagging the top spot, most are from Rajasthan. As many as 11 are from Rajasthan, followed by eight from Tamil Nadu and seven from Maharashtra.

While 67 students have bagged rank 1, only 48 seats were there for open-category candidates in AIIMS New Delhi in 2023. There were a total of 132 seats in the institute with three earmarked for open-PWD category candidates, 11 for General-EWS, 32 for OBC, 18 for SC, nine for ST and one each for SC-PwD and Gen-EWS PwD. Two seats were earmarked for OBC-PwD.

The testing agency in a social media post said: “NTA received few representations and Court Cases from the candidates of NEET (UG) 2024 raising concerns of loss of time during the conduct of the examination on 05.05.2024. Such cases/representations were considered by NTA and the normalisation formula, which has been devised and adopted by the Hon'ble Apex Court, vide its Judgment dated 13.06.2018, was implemented to address the loss of time faced by the candidates of NEET (UG) 2024."

It further added: "The loss of examination time was ascertained and such candidates were compensated with grace marks. So, candidate's marks can be 718 or 719 also."

Amina Arif Kadiwala from Madni High School Jogeshwari is among the 67 students who have bagged AIR 1 in NEET UG by scoring a perfect 720 marks. Amina completed her SSC from Urdu Medium School Madni High School Jogeshwari and was enrolled at Excellent Master Academy Jogeshwari.

Despite coming from a modest background and studying in a Urdu medium school, she demonstrated exceptional dedication and perseverance to secure the All India Rank 1 in the NEET UG 2024 examination. Amina aspires to join AIIMS New Delhi.

Two options are declared correct from the original one answer in NEET UG 2024 and the marks of as many as 44 candidates got increased to 720 from 715.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) today announced the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET UG) 2024 results. For the scheduled caste, scheduled tribe and other backward class candidates, the NEET UG cut-off has increased to 163-129 from 136-107 last year. Similarly, the NEET UG 2024 cut off for SC, ST and OBC-PH candidates, the cut off has increased from 120-107 last year to 145-129 this year.

The NEET cut-off for MBBS and BDS for medical aspirants belonging to the General category is 50th, for OBC, SC and ST candidates, it is 40th. The NTA determines the NEET UG percentile on the basis of the highest marks scored in the all-India common merit list in NEET UG 2024.

NTA conducted the NEET UG 2024 exam for more than 24 lakh candidates at different centers located in 557 cities throughout the country including 14 cities outside India.

Refuting claims of NEET UG paper leak, NTA sources have told the indianexpress.com that a background check has also been done on the NEET UG 2024 toppers. The source also said that NEET toppers have been high scorers in Class 10 and Class 12.

b. The candidate with the highest mark/percentile in Chemistry, followed by

c. The candidate who achieved the highest marks/percentile score in Physics in the test, followed by

e. A candidate with the lowest proportion of incorrect responses to correct responses in Biology (Botany and Zoology) is the winner, followed by

f. Candidate with the lowest ratio of incorrect answers to correct answers in Chemistry, followed by

g. The candidate with a lower percentage of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in Physics, followed by

h. Candidate older in age, followed by

i. NEET application number in ascending order

Last year, the NEET UG cut-off percentile for the general category was 50 for MBBS and BDS candidates and 40 for OBC, SC and ST candidates.  The NTA will determine the percentile of NEET UG based on the highest marks scored in the all-India common merit list for NEET UG 2024.

Tamil Nadu’s Prabanjan J and Andhra Pradesh’s Bora Varun Chakravarthi have topped the NEET-UG last year scoring 99.99 percentile scores, the National Testing Agency (NTA) announced. A total of 20.38 lakh registered for the exam of which 11.45 lakh candidates qualified.

In the NEET UG 2024 answer key, if more than one option is found to be correct then four marks (+4) will be awarded to only those who have marked any of the correct options. However, if all options are found to be correct then four marks (+4) will be awarded to all those who have attempted the question.

If none of the options is found correct or a question is found to be wrong or a question is dropped then all candidates who have appeared will be given four marks (+4) irrespective of the fact whether the question has been attempted or not attempted by the candidate.

NTA has not dropped any questions this year from the NEET UG 2024 question paper.
