NEET UG 2023 Counselling: Directorate Of Medical Education and Research, Tamil Nadu has released the provisional rank list for MBBS and BDS courses. The candidates can check the list for various categories at the official website– tnmedicalselection.net.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) declared the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) UG 2023 results on June 13. In order to get selected in an MBBS or BDS course, the qualified candidates will have to appear for the centralised counselling process, conducted by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC)/ Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) for undergraduate medical / dental courses for the 15 per cent all India quota seats and 85 per cent state quota seats by respective state authorities.
To be eligible for NEET counselling process, general category candidates need score in the 50th percentile, while SC/ST/OBC candidates need score in the 40th percentile. Based on the NEET results, the National Testing Agency prepares the merit list for 15 per cent AIQ counselling. As part of the 85 percent state quota counselling, NTA also provides information about qualified candidates from each state to the respective authorities.

This year Tamil Nadu, a state which opposes NEET exam has achieved its highest-ever tally in the top 50 ranks of the exam, producing the country’s topper along with four students in the top 10 and also emerging as the state with the third-highest number of achievers. There are four rounds of counselling- Round 1, Round 2, Mop-up Round and Stray Vacancy Round. During the counselling process, candidates will be asked to submit their choices of colleges for admission into Tamil Nadu medical colleges.
The merit list is prepared based on the choices locked by the candidates. Once the merit list is out, candidates will be scheduled for counselling based on that. Candidates have to pay the registration fee of Rs 500 for government quota seats and Rs 1000 for management quota seats. For government quota seats, they have to pay a security deposit of Rs 30,000 and Rs 1 lakh for management quota seats. Once seats are allotted, candidates have to pay the tuition fee and complete other formalities for admission.
