Reports suggest that almost 200 companies are slated to visit the institute’s Kanpur campus for placements this year.
An Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur student has bagged Rs 1.5 crore per annum salary package job offer from Microsoft as part of the placement drive of the institute. The student, who belongs to Delhi, will have to shift to Redmond to work at the company’s headquarters to work on software design, implementation and bug fixing.
The student will be receiving $136000 (Rs 94 lakh) as basic pay, in addition to $70,000 as expenditure for medical, visa charges, stock ownership options and relation, according to a report in The Times of India. This rounds the total package off to almost Rs 1.5 crore.
Sources suggest that almost 200 companies are slated to visit the institute’s Kanpur campus for placements this year. Last year, this number was about 280, with the highest pay package being Rs 93 lakh.
Companies offering technology for reservoir characterisation, drilling, production and processing operations for natural fuels are not present, the report says. Companies such as Transocean and Schlumberger have also not made it to the placement season this time.
A number of e-commerce firms, such as Amazon, Ola, Uber and Paytm, are also taking part in the placements. Out of these, Uber is yet to select students.
