JEE Main 2026: In IIT Gandhinagar, these are the most-opted courses

Closely following CSE is the Artificial Intelligence programme, which recorded a 15.93 per cent rise, climbing from 16,223 candidates in 2024 to 18,808 in 2025. The growing popularity of AI reflects the increasing awareness among students of its relevance across multiple sectors, from automation to healthcare.

Another strong performer this year is Integrated Circuit Design and Technology (ICDT), which saw the steepest increase of 26.32 per cent, rising from 8,335 candidates in 2024 to 10,529 in 2025. This surge may be attributed to the national focus on semiconductor production and chip design, areas in which IIT Gandhinagar has been steadily building academic and research competence. 

Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering have also strengthened their positions, with increases of 13.64 and 12.10 per cent, respectively, reaffirming continued student confidence in core engineering streams. Civil and Chemical Engineering witnessed comparable improvements, rising by 13.52 and 11.03 percent. Materials Engineering, another specialised discipline, grew by 13.18 per cent, indicating consistent interest in areas of advanced manufacturing and material innovation.

Interestingly, the data shows that the five-year dual-degree programmes in Electrical, Mechanical, and Computer Science Engineering, which had notable candidate counts last year, registered zero entries in 2025. 

Overall, IIT Gandhinagar’s 2025 JIC data suggests that students are showing balanced interest across both traditional engineering branches and new-age technology fields. While Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence continue to dominate, other programmes like ICDT and Materials Engineering indicate a widening scope of interest linked to national-level technological initiatives.
