Candidates appearing for engineering entrance exam JEE Main 2024 will have to undergo frisking and biometric attendance after toilet breaks as well, according to National Testing Agency (NTA) officials.

Officials, observers, staff members and even helps serving refreshments will have to undergo the same process, they said.

“The move is aimed at ensuring there are no cases of use of unfair means or proxy attendance. We have strict mechanisms in place already but the idea is to make the exam completely foolproof to ensure there are zero incidents,” NTA Director Subodh Kumar Singh said.

The NTA has released the JEE Main city slips of BArch and BPlanning papers.

This is only an Advance Intimation of the Exam City Allotted where the Examination Centre will be located, to facilitate the candidates.

Candidates will be provided with choices in one section of each subject of paper 1 and part-1 of paper 2A and 2B to cater to the decision of different boards across the country regarding the reduction of the syllabus. However, the total number of questions to be
attempted will remain the same (Physics – 25, Chemistry – 25, and Mathematics – 25), wherever applicable, NTA said.

Candidates are not allowed to carry instruments, geometry or pencil box, handbag, purse, any kind of paper, stationery, textual material (printed or written material), eatables and water (loose or packed), mobile phone/ earphone/ microphone/ pager, calculator, docupen, slide rules, log tables, camera, tape recorder, electronic watches with facilities of calculator, any metallic item or electronic gadgets/ devices in the examination hall.

In section A (MCQ), if none of the options are found to be correct or a question is found to be wrong or a question is dropped, then full marks are awarded to candidates who appeared for the paper irrespective of whether they attempted the question or not. In section B (questions whose answer should be a numerical value), if a question is found to be incorrect or the question is dropped then full marks will be awarded to all those who attempted the question.

The JEE Mains city intimation 2024 date is not announced yet. While the city intimation slips for January 24 exam is released, the slips for the later exams are not out yet. Ideally, NTA announces the city intimation 10 days in advance.

General category candidates belonging to Economically Weaker Section (GEN- EWS) have 10 per cent of seats in every course.
Other Backward Classes candidates belonging to the Non-Creamy Layer (OBC- NCL) have 27 per cent of seats in every course.
OBC candidates present in the State list but not covered in the central list of OBCs and OBC candidates belonging to creamy layer are NOT eligible to claim the reservation.
Scheduled Caste (SC) candidates have 15 per cent of seats in every course.
Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates have 7.5 percent of seats in every course. 

The BE/ BTech paper will be conducted in Computer Based Test mode. All three subjects- Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics will have two sections. Section A will have 20 questions, section B will have 10 questions. All three subjects will be for 100 marks each. The total paper will be of 300 marks.

Chennai-based Mahalaxmi Swaminathan is one of 108 CUET UG 2022 toppers who secured 755/800 marks in the exam. She is currently pursuing BA (Hons) Economics from Sri Ram College of Commerce.

"I relied on the same preparation material that I used for CBSE board exams. I prepared from Arihant, Oswaal books and there were YouTube videos and many ebooks available on Telegram. And also, the CUET UG 2022 was completely based on NCERT so, a thorough reading of NCERT was important," she told Agrima Srivastava.

Candidates are required to carry these documents to the JEE Main session 2 exam centres:

- Admit Card along with passport size photograph affixed on it.

- One passport-size photograph (to be affixed on the attendance sheet on the day of the Examination.

- Candidates are advised not to bring any other items to the examination centers. There will be no arrangement for the safekeeping of  any material at the centre. Neither NTA nor centre will be responsible for any loss, delay etc.

Candidates should remember that they will not be allowed to enter the exam centre premises without showing the hall ticket first, so it is necessary to download and take a print out of the admit card.

A candidate has a choice to appear in one or both sessions. He/ she will be awarded NTA score in each session based on his performance. The candidate’s best NTA scores of all the sessions in which he/ she has appeared will be considered for preparation of merit list/ ranking.

Paper 1 (BTech) will consist of three subjects- physics, chemistry and mathematics. Each subject will be divided in two sections. Section A will be of Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQs) and Section B will contain questions whose answers are to be filled in as a numerical value. In Section B, candidates are expected to attempt any five questions out of ten.

The Joint Entrance Exam (Main) will be conducted in 13 languages. The languages are- English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu.

IIT Bombay will soon launch an Interdisciplinary Dual Degree Programme (IDDDP) in Quantum Science and Technology. This two-year programme will focus on courses on QST and project work, to be undertaken in one of the centre-affiliated research groups. Only 22 IIT-Bombay students have received Rs one crore plus offers in phase I of placement held in December. Last week, the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IIT-B) announced that a total of 85 candidates had been offered salary packages greater than Rs 1 crore, which was much higher than the 25 such offers last year. However, the institute has today issued a correction.

As per the official statement by the placement office of IIT Bombay, “The phase-I placements (December 1-20, 2023) incorrectly reported the number of accepted Rs one crore plus offers as 85. The correct number of accepted one crore plus offers is 22. All other data reported is confirmed to be correct. The Placement Office of IIT Bombay strongly regrets this mistake.”

NTA has changed the host website address for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2024. The new website is jeemain.nta.ac.in.

Earlier, all the information was uploaded on jeemain.nta.nic.in -- a website that was maintained by the National Informatics Centre (NIC). However, the NTA has now developed its own platform for JEE Main 2024.

"Till now, NIC (National Informatics Centre) used to host the online application forms of the JEE Main. Now NTA has developed this new platform and is in the process of using its own server for activities related to hosting the online application forms, and generating the city intimation slip, admit card, and score card, etc," a senior official from NTA told indianexpress.com.

The 2023 topper of JEE Advanced scored 341/ 360, which was comparatively lower in 2022 as R K Shishir, the JEE Advanced topper in 2022, scored 314 out of a total 360. It was the lowest in five years. A similar trend was seen in female toppers as the marks scored by CRL 56 in JEE Advanced 2023 was 298/ 360, which was higher than the CRL 16 from 2022’s score 277 out of 360.

Interestingly, the Covid batch of 2020 scored the most in the five-year period between 2019 and 2023. While the JEE Advanced 2020 CRL 1 holder Chirag Falor scored 352/ 360, Kanishka Mittal scored 315 marks out of 360 and bagged CRL 17.

IIT Bombay has been the most preferred IIT for JEE aspirants for the past few years. IIT Bombay has been the top choice for around 90 per cent of top 50 JEE Advanced rankers. As many as 47 out of the top 50 rankers chose IIT Bombay in 2018, while it was 42 in 2019 and 2021, and 46 in 2022 and 2023.

The total number of students taking admission in the Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) and Bachelor of Technology (B. Tech) courses through regional languages, in the years 2021-22 and 2022-23, were 245 and 683, respectively. This information was shared by the Minister of State in the Ministry of Education, Dr Subhas Sarkar in the Rajya Sabha.

Also, JEE Main is also being conducted in 13 regional languages which also facilitates students studying in regional languages, the minister said.
