JEE Advanced 2025 Exam Analysis
Each question paper will consist of three separate sections — physics, chemistry and mathematics. According inputs from experts and candidates, mathematics was the most challenging paper, while chemistry and physics closely following a similar pattern. This year, a total of 1,87,223 candidates registered for JEE Advanced 2025.
Students claimed that chemistry leaned towards easy to moderate difficulty, but the section lacked balance. Physics was regarded as well-balanced and of moderate difficulty. Key chapters included kinematics, modern physics, electrostatics, rotational motion, capacitors, current electricity, and optics. Mathematics emerged as the toughest section for most students, with questions from definite integrals, functions, limits, matrices, and statistics.
Experts labelled the exam as moderate to difficult. However, time management played a key role in performance, especially due to the lengthiness of the Mathematics section in both papers.
Both Paper 1 and Paper 2 maintained consistent difficulty levels, with a balanced approach in Physics and Chemistry. Maths remained the toughest in both shifts, according to early student reviews.
This year, under the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) India Rankings, 2024, released by the Union Ministry of Education, IIT Gandhinagar, the tech institute was ranked at the 18th spot under the engineering category and that too with a score of 63.42. The National Institute of Technology Rourkela (NIT Rourkela) will be coordinating the Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB 2025) for the academic year 2025-26 to facilitate admissions of Indian national students to undergraduate programmes at 31 NITs, 1 IIEST, 26 IIITs, 3 Schools of Planning and Architecture (SPAs), and 36 Other Government Funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs) under the umbrella of the ‘NIT+ System.’
While NIT Rourkela will lead the NIT+ System, IIT Kanpur will lead the IIT System, and both these institutes will co-host the 2025 edition of the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA). The Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, today introduced two new undergraduate engineering courses for the coming academic year of 2025-26. The courses will be offered through the Department of Applied Mechanics and Biomedical Engineering, which has been at the forefront of interdisciplinary research since the inception of IIT Madras in 1959.
Students who have cleared JEE (Advanced) can choose these two new programmes in the upcoming Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JOSAA) Counselling. They will have a total student strength of 40 each.
The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) opened admissions for its online BS Degree Programs in Data Science and Applications and Electronic Systems. These undergraduate programs are designed to be flexible and accessible, providing an alternative route to IIT-quality education without requiring the traditional Joint Entrance Examination (JEE).
Applications are open until May 20, 2025, through the official portal: study.iitm.ac.in. The programs are open to all students who have completed Class 12, with no age restrictions or seat limits.
This initiative is part of IIT Madras‘ broader mission to democratise access to premier technical education. While students qualifying through JEE can gain direct entry, others must complete a four-week online preparatory module and clear an in-person qualifier exam.
The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT Kanpur) has collaborated with the Wadhwani Foundation to launch a School of Artificial Intelligence and Intelligent Systems. During a launch event held in New Delhi, the collaboration was formalized through a MoU signed in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi (MoU).
The new school is expected to act as a superhub in Wadhwani Innovation Network. WSAI will host a newly established department with five early research centers and intelligent systems, offering student, doctoral and doctoral programs starting in 2026.

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur has established a ten-member committee comprising psychologists, legal and police professionals, educationists, counsellors, and alumni, in a move to evaluate the mental well-being of its campus community.
The committee is tasked with assessing the multiple factors, be they primary, secondary, or tertiary, and the impact on the mental health of students, faculty, and staff. It will also identify challenges such as inadequate resources, administrative shortfalls, and academic pressures that may hinder the resolution of mental health issues on campus.

Physics was regarded as well-balanced and of moderate difficulty. Key chapters included kinematics, modern physics, electrostatics, rotational motion, capacitors, current electricity, and optics. The weightage was fairly distributed across various units, and most questions were conceptually driven without being too lengthy, as per student feedback. The majority of the questions were numerical in nature, requiring conceptual clarity and moderate calculation skills, claimed Ajay Sharma, National Academic Director, Engineering, Aakash Educational Services Limited.
Students claimed that chemistry leaned towards easy to moderate difficulty, but the section lacked balance. Organic chemistry had a heavier weightage, with questions from topics such as amines, oxygen-containing compounds, polymers, and named reactions.
Inorganic chemistry was minimal, though questions like those from coordination compounds were directly from the NCERT. Physical chemistry included electrochemistry, thermodynamics, atomic structure, and equilibrium. Some mixed concept questions were also observed.
According to Ramesh Batlish, senior JEE expert at Aakash Invictus, the overall difficulty level of Paper 1 ranged from moderate to difficult, with mathematics emerging as the most challenging section.
Similarly, according to Ujjwal Singh, Founding CEO of Infinity Learn by Sri Chaitanya, JEE Advanced 2025 was slightly more difficult overall compared to last year. In the morning session (Paper 1), Mathematics was the most time-consuming section, while Physics was of moderate difficulty, and Chemistry was relatively easier. The overall pattern remained largely unchanged.
In the second sitting (Paper 2), Singh noted that the difficulty level was higher, especially in Physics, which had more conceptual and lengthier questions than in the first paper. Chemistry remained moderate but had greater emphasis on Organic Chemistry. Mathematics again demanded in-depth conceptual clarity and involved several computationally intensive problems. Singh added that due to the increased difficulty in both Physics and Mathematics, subject-wise and overall cut-offs may slightly decrease compared to last year.
Paper 1 consisted of 180 marks, equally divided among Physics, Chemistry, and Maths. Each subject had four sections—Single and Multiple Correct MCQs, Numerical Answer Type, and Match the Following, each with specific marking schemes.
From the IIT Kanpur zone, a total of 21,019 candidates appeared for JEE Advanced 2025. This included 17,233 male candidates and 3,786 female candidates.
The IIT Hyderabad zone recorded the highest number of candidates, with a total of 45,622 participants. Among them, 31,211 were male candidates, while 14,411 were female candidates.
A total of 12,802 candidates appeared from the IIT Guwahati zone for the JEE Advanced 2025 examination. This includes 10,624 male candidates and 2,178 female candidates.
Inorganic Chemistry had limited presence, but the questions that appeared were directly based on NCERT textbooks—such as those on Coordination Compounds and Periodic Properties.
Several aspirants mentioned that the Mathematics section in JEE Advanced 2025 was calculation-intensive and took more time to solve. This added time pressure compared to Physics and Chemistry.
Physical Chemistry topics like Electrochemistry, Thermodynamics, and Equilibrium featured prominently. Many of these were mixed-concept questions requiring solid understanding and accuracy.

Due to the challenging nature of the Mathematics section, experts predict that the JEE Advanced 2025 cut-offs could see a slight dip. Final results will depend on the performance distribution across shifts.
The IIT Kharagpur zone saw participation from 19,302 candidates in total. Out of these, 15,073 were male candidates and 4,229 were female candidates.
In the IIT Roorkee zone, a total of 17,407 candidates appeared for the examination. This number comprises 13,881 male candidates and 3,526 female candidates.
Across all zones in India, a grand total of 1,87,223 candidates appeared for the JEE Advanced 2025 exam. Of these, 1,43,810 were male candidates and 43,413 were female candidates.

At the time of examination, candidates need to produce a printout of the downloaded admit card and a valid original photo identity card (any one of the following:- Aadhaar Card, School/College/Institute ID, Driving License, Voter ID, Passport, PAN Card, Notarized Certificate with photograph).
Without these, the candidate will not be allowed to appear for the exam.

Practice your exam technique: You need to think about how you are going to approach the JEE Advanced 2025 paper, which subject you will start with, how long you need for each section and when you will move from a question.
Work through the exam plan during your mock tests and amend it when you need to. This will save you time and panic on your exam day.
The JEE Advanced 2025 examination will be held on May 18, and will be conducted in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode. The exam comprises two compulsory papers:

Strengthen your good areas: It is better to enhance your good subjects rather than waste time correcting poor areas at this point.
During the exam, you will benefit more by confidently cracking questions on subjects you are already proficient in. Make sure you are absolutely clear with the basics of these subjects and can apply them immediately and precisely.
PwD candidates or candidates with less than 40 per cent disability and having difficulty in writing will be able to choose scribe today, May 17.
Candidates are advised not to wear charm or taweez. JEE Advanced aspirants should also not wear items containing metals such as ring, bracelet, earrings, nose pin, chain or necklace, pendant, badge, brooch, clothes with big buttons. They are also advised to wear open footwear like chappals and sandals.
Revise selectively, but not comprehensively: This is not the moment to learn new things. Hold on to what you already have. Work on reworking important formulas, ideas, and earlier noted key points from your notes.
Devote time to high-scoring areas such as electrostatics, thermodynamics, coordinate geometry, and organic chemistry fundamentals. Examine your summary sheets and error notebooks if you have kept them throughout your preparation.
Watches, mobile phones, bluetooth devices, earphones, microphones, pagers, health bands, camera, electronic pens, calculators, pen drives, scanner and any other electronic gadgets are not allowed in the JEE Advanced exam hall.
Any printed, blank or hand written paper, Log tables, Writing pads, Scales, Eraser, Geometry, goggles and similar items are not allowed either.
Pencil-boxes, pouches, wallets and handbags are not allowed.
Practice previous year papers and mock tests: Practicing the past 5-10 years of JEE Advanced papers familiarizes you with the pattern of questions, difficulty, and time management. It is also a wonderful way to refresh.
In these last few days, practice at least 2–3 full-length mock tests under actual exam conditions. After every test, review your performance, pinpoint silly mistakes, and avoid repeating them.
After the JEE Advanced Exam 2025, IIT Kanpur will release the copy of candidates’ responses on May 22, allowing students to review their answers. The provisional answer key will likely be published on May 26, with the objection window open until May 27. After considering the challenges submitted, the final answer key will be released on June 2, which will form the basis for result preparation.
These admit cards will contain essential information such as the candidate’s name, roll number for JEE (Advanced) 2025, photograph, signature, date of birth, correspondence address, and category.
