The Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (IIT D) will not be mentioning high-value packages in their placement related press releases, an official notice from IIT Delhi stated. IITs will from today (December 1) begin the annual campus placement interviews.
IIT Delhi also conducted an exit survey among the graduated students which revealed that only 5 per cent graduated students (from last year) were still looking for appropriate career opportunities. A large fraction of these students comprises of PhD scholars looking for Post-Doctoral Research opportunities abroad.
Students availing on-campus placement in 2023-2024 had increased by about 25 per cent from 2022-23, which includes a six-fold increase in number of PhD scholars. The total number of graduates in 2023-24 is higher than the previous year by close to 10 per cent, and the number of PhD graduates by 30 per cent.
For the first time, IIT Delhi conducted a special placement drive for PhD Scholars in June 2024, which helped to increase the number of offers by seven times compared to the previous year. Notwithstanding the success of the initial attempt at PhD placement, a large majority of these graduates are placed through off-campus placement which is to be expected as they are recruited to occupy niche roles.
In the last placement season (2023-2024), 1222 unique job offers, and 741 unique internship offers were received.
“We have left no stone unturned to ensure that all our students who have signed up to avail our services in 2024-25 are able to find career opportunities commensurate with their abilities and expectation. We have a large number of profiles lined up to visit IIT Delhi in the weeks ahead and we believe this would cater to all aspiring students. IIT Delhi appreciates the recruiters and extends them a warm welcome. Our students’ talent, potential, and drive are second to none, and are positive that at the end of the exercise the recruiters would concur. We wish our students all the best for the upcoming placement session,” said Prof R. Ayothiraman and Prof Naresh Datla, Professor in-charges of the Office of Career Services (OCS), IIT Delhi.
