The Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT-M) established the Engineering Design department in 2006 and was the 16th department that was started by them. It offers a dual degree programme in Engineering Design that is specialised in Automotive Engineering, Biomedical Design and Robotics.
The average salary for the Engineering Design department has increased significantly each year. IIT Madras Engineering department average salary has gone up from Rs 11.99 lakh per annum in 2017-18 to Rs 20.55 lakh per annum in 2021-22. The campus placement trends have seen many highs and lows in the Engineering design department.
The total number of offers has also increased from 48 in 2017-18 to 51 in 2018-19 but the total offers decreased to 50 in 2019-2020 and then to 39 in 2020-2021. This can be due to the emergence of the Covid pandemic. The total number of seats dramatically increased to 61 in 2021-22.
There is a steady rise in the number of placed students from 38 in 2017-18 to 45 in 2018-19, but then in the following years due to the emergence of Covid-19, it decreased from 41 in 2019-2020 and then to 36 in 2020-21. In 2021-22, the number of placed students jumped to 51.
The placement percentage of the Engineering design department in 2021-22 was 74, according to the IIT-Madras’s data. The department of Engineering Design has minimum package of Rs 7.5 lakh per annum and the maximum package in 2021-22 was Rs 54.12 lakh per annum.
The top recruiters of the Engineering design department are Texas Instruments, Bajaj Auto, Qualcomm, J P Morgan Chase, Proctor & Gamble, Morgan Stanley, Graviton, Mckinsey & Company and Cohesity and others.
