This year, while the number of eligible students decreased from 138 in 2020-21 to 136, the number of placed students increased from 62 last year to 90 this time. The same was observed in the number of total offers (74 in 2020-21 to 104 in 2021-22) and the average salary, which increased from Rs 13.64 lakh per annum in 2020-21 to Rs 17.33 lakh per annum in 2021-22.

However, in 2020-21, the placement graph of IIT Madras had taken a dip from the year before, which may have been an effect of the Covid pandemic. In 2019-20, the total number of eligible students (109) was less than those in 2020-21 (138), but other than that all the other data took a downward turn. The number of total offers decreased from 77 to 74, placed students went from 66 to 62, and the average salary, too, decreased from Rs 15.24 lakh to Rs 13.64 lakh.

It was just the 2020-21 batch which saw this downfall, as before that the graph had only been increasing. The Rs 15.24 lakh average salary in 2019-2020, was a good increase from 2018-19’s average salary of Rs 13.68 lakh and Rs 11.93 lakh in 2017-18.
