IIT Delhi confers degrees, diplomas to 2656 graduating students at its 55th convocation

While BTech degree awardee Kaveesh Kumar, who is less than 20 years old, was the youngest student to graduate this year, and a 63-year-old PhD awardee Sunil Kumar Gulati was the oldest in the Institute.

The Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (IIT-D) held its 55 annual convocation on Saturday where 2656 graduating students received degrees and diplomas from the institute. This year, Hari S. Bhartia, founder and co-chairman, Jubilant Bhartia Group and an IIT Delhi alumnus of the 1979 batch became the chief guest.

In the convocation, out of the total students who graduated, 25 per cent were women. The Institute awarded degrees to 481 PhD graduates, a 35 per cent increase from the previous year and a testament to its emphasis on research. 481 is also an all-time high number. Of the total PhD graduates this year, 42 per cent are women, claimed the press release.

Manas Choudhary a BTech in Engineering Physics was awarded the President’s Gold Medal at the convocation. Divyansh Agarwal another BTech student in Electrical Engineering, was awarded the Director’s Gold Medal. The Perfect Ten Gold Medal was awarded to five students, while the Institute Silver Medal honored 16 others.

Twenty-eight international students  also received their degrees at the convocation 2024. Out of the 28 international students, four come from Sudan and Ethiopia, three from Tanzania and Uganda, two from Bangladesh and Burkina Faso, and one each from various other countries such as the USA and Venezuela.

At the 55 convocation, the Institute honored its alumni with the Distinguished Alumni Awards 2024, which include the Alumni Award and the graduates of Last Decade Award.
