CUET-UG 2023: Exam postponed in Manipur and J-K

Several aspirants from J&K, as well as from Jharkhand, had expressed concern over being allotted examination centres in far away places despite having opted for those closer home.

Nasir Khuehami, the National Convenor of J&K Students Association, told The Indian Express it was impractical for many students from the UT to reach the allotted centres. “Several students…who opted for Srinagar as the centre of choice have been allotted centres in Panchkula (Haryana) and Punjab. Students from the marginalised communities are affected the most as they cannot shell out too much money to travel that far,” he said.

In a statement issued late on Friday, the NTA said: “Being sensitive to the needs of candidates and to facilitate the students of J&K, the NTA is exploring the possibility of creating temporary centres in Kashmir. In view of the above, it has been decided that the CUET (UG) – 2023 will now be conducted from 26 May 2023 onwards in the UT…”

“NTA has sent an email to each candidate…attaching the public notice about rescheduling of CUET (UG)- 2023 for the candidates of UT of J&K,” UGC chairman M Jagadesh Kumar tweeted.

In another statement on Manipur and Jharkhand, the UGC said: “Though all measures have been taken for allotting the candidates to their preferred cities, there are some candidates who have been allotted to a city in a neighbouring state. However, we have announced the city information slip in advance to give them time for making travel arrangements… As far as Manipur is concerned…NTA has carefully reviewed the law-and-order situation in consultation with the State Administration and contacted candidates by telephone for asking their preferred city…”

“Some candidates who were not in Manipur or wanted to take the examination in another State/City are being allocated to other cities, i.e. Delhi, Guwahati, etc…. After contacting the State administration, the NTA has been advised to keep all examinations in the State of Manipur from May 29 onwards,” it added.
