Scoring 799 in the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) UG 2023, Ishika Khatri is now studying in her dream college — Miranda House. Pursuing Political Science Honours at Delhi University, Khatri is trying to explore different avenues.
“Ever since I came to college, I’ve been trying to explore my passions. I will soon narrow down my interests and goals. Besides, whatever I choose as a career option, I hope it helps me become a better person. I hope I’m happy with the life I make for myself,” said the 19-year-old girl.
In the CUET exam, she appeared in English, Psychology, Political Science, and Geography. Through self-study and determination, she got a perfect score in all of them except English. “I got 200 initially but it was reduced to 199.64 due to normalisation. So, my total score ended up being 799.64/800, while the percentile for all subjects was 100,” she added.
Sharing her preparation strategy, she said, “My preparation for CUET was pretty much similar to that of CBSE Class 12 board exams as the syllabus was the same. Therefore, I covered most of the CUET UG syllabus during my boards preparation. Yet, we had some deleted portions which I covered after boards got over. I just focused on NCERTs,” said the girl who scored 97.4 per cent in Class 12.
“I did make notes for all the subjects. My notes were very direct and I ended up jotting the entire NCERT text into my notebooks because writing and then learning works for me. Yet, for revision I only stuck to reading directly from NCERTs. By the time of my examination, I had read the NCERT multiple times and could recall all the minute details,” said the topper who stayed away from social media to minimise the distractions during CUET preparations.
“I did not take any coaching and prepared at home by myself. However, for English I did take help from numerous free courses available over YouTube. They were really helpful and assisted me thoroughly with my preparation,” she added.
Khatri did not follow a tight routine but aimed for producing sitting hours wherein her goal was to complete the target and revise maximum portions. She preferred taking naps during the day to refresh herself and also made sure to spend time with family to manage her stress levels.
The 19-year-old shared some suggestions for the students who will appear in the CUET UG 2025, “One should be thorough with each and every line given in there and take special note of the small factual details, like dates etc which we usually ignore. The extra information provided in boxes in the NCERTs also needs to be studied.”
She further said that there is no substitute for hard work. “If you want to be admitted in the top college, your efforts should also be of the same level. Stick to your syllabus, learn it over and over and revise as much as you can. Do not get lost and stay focused. I attempted 10 mock tests for each subject and also devotedly did previous year questions. It helps a lot at the time of final examination,” she added.
