CBSE Board Exam 2024: These are the major changes announced this year

CBSE Board Exam 2024, Major Changes: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced a few changes this year’s board exam pattern. Be it the removal of division, distinction or removing the Accountancy answer books, the changes have been made keeping in mind the feedback received by stakeholders.

Check the list of major updates below:

1. No answer books in Accountancy

The Board has decided to do away with the answer books which were provided in the subject of Accountancy. The decision was taken on the basis of feedback received from stakeholders.

“It is informed that from Board Examination, 2024 CBSE based on feedback received from stakeholders has decided to do away with the Answer Books wherein tables were provided in the subject of Accountancy. From Examinations-2024, normal lines Answer Books as provided in other subjects in Class 12 will be provided in Accountancy subject also,” the official notification stated.

This change will be applicable from the board exams 2023-24.

2. No announcement of overall division, distinction or aggregate

CBSE has announced that the Board will not award any overall division, distinction or aggregate to the students appearing for the Class 10 and Class 12 exams in 2024. The Board announced it after it received requests from multiple candidates to intimate the criteria for calculating the percentage of students.

The board will neither calculate nor declare and inform the percentage of marks.

3. Special arrangement for students participating in sports events, Olympiad

CBSE has announced that for students participating in national or international sports events and international Olympiads who might not be able to take the CBSE Class 10 and Class 12 exams, the board will conduct special exams at a later date. However, no separate or special CBSE 2024 examination opportunity will be available for the compartment and practical exams.

The decision has been taken to promote sports and other educational competitions among the youths.

To avail this, candidates should remember that the sport they participate in must be recognised by the Sports Authority of India (SAI) and the Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) and the Olympiad recognised by the Homi Bhabha Center for Science Education (HBCSE).

4. Sample question papers, marking scheme released

A total of 60 sample question papers have been released for Class 10 and 77 for Class 12. Students can check the same on the official website— cbseacademic.nic.in.

The answers are available in the marking scheme along with marks for each answer.

5. Boards exams twice a year, best score to be retained

The Union Minister for Education, Dharmendra Pradhan earlier announced that the new curriculum framework (NCF) as per National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 is ready and textbooks will be developed for the 2024 academic session.

As per the NCF, the board exams will be conducted twice a year and students will be allowed to retain the best score. Students can appear for a board exam in subjects they have completed and feel ready for.

Additionally, Class 11 and 12 students will have to study two languages from now on and at least one language must be an Indian language and choices of subjects will not be restricted to streams, students will get flexibility to choose.
