CBSE Biology paper analysis: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Thursday conducted the Biology exam for Class 12. The exam was conducted from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm. Teachers and students termed the paper as balanced with a “moderate difficulty level.”

According to Smita Mudliya of Aakash BYJU’s, the question paper had 33 questions for 70 marks. Questions were majorly from human health and diseases, biotechnology- principles and processes, ecology, human reproduction, principles of inheritance and variation. Out of the 33 questions, 12 were easy, 18 were moderate and 3 were difficult. The MCQs asked were easy and scoring but The Assertion and Reasoning Questions were a bit tricky.

Sonia Saraswat, PGT Biology at DPS Raj Nagar Extension, New Delhi, said the question paper was balanced and had a mix of application and memory-based questions. “The difficulty level was the same as the CBSE sample papers. Assertion and reason questions were found to be tricky for students. Sections B, C and D were of moderate level of difficulty. Section E mainly consisted of direct questions. Students who are thoroughly prepared from NCERT will score well.

According to Dr Milind C, National Head, Knowledge Management at Deeksha, the Biology question paper was easy however, it is difficult to score a centum. “This is in part due to at least 3 quite tricky MCQs in each of the three sets. These were from topics including Molecular Basis of Inheritance, Evolution, and Biotechnology. Reportedly, 1 question was beyond the NCERT syllabus in Set 1 and Set 3,” said he.

Pooja Hoel, PGT Biology, MRG School, Delhi said the MCQs were high scoring. “However, there were tricky subjective questions that required critical thinking. The paper was structured as per CBSE guidelines. Overall, the paper required technical thinking and application,” she said.

Lipika Tamuli, PGT- Biology, Modern English School, Guwahati said the exam pattern and difficulty level were similar to that of the sample paper. It consists of questions ranging from easy to moderate difficulty. Sixty per cent of questions were direct and if the students studied well, they have a good chance of scoring well. “The question paper was balanced and student-friendly paper which is a perfect mix of analysis, application and memory-based questions. If students have read the NCERT books properly, they will score well. Students could readily finish the paper in the allotted time. Case-based questions — that consist of diagrams — made it more comfortable for the students to answer. The MCQ’s though moderate but a few questions were a bit tricky and conceptual. Most of the long questions are direct,” said Tamuli.

Anjali, a student of Kendriya Vidyalaya, SGPGI, Lucknow said that all the questions were from NCERT and the difficulty level was moderate. The paper was completed in the stipulated time and Section E was the easiest out of all the sections.
