40% women in IIM-Bangalore’s PGP batch, engineers continue to dominate

A total of 73 per cent are from the engineering background, 14 per cent from Commerce and 6 per cent each from Arts and Science backgrounds.

A total of 535 students have joined IIM Bangalore’s Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP) and 72 have got admission to the PGP in Business Analytics this year. This includes 40 per cent women students, the highest in the last 18 years.

Prof Kunal Dasgupta, chairperson, admissions and financial aid, and faculty of the Economics area of IIM-B said, “Out of the total PGP students who have gained admission, 11 are international students. This year, a whopping 40 per cent female students are joining, which is the highest in the last 18 years. The average work experience for PGP and PGPBA is 27 months and 20 months, respectively. The average ages for PGP and PGPBA are 26 years and 24 years, respectively.”

He further added that a total of 73 per cent are from the engineering background, 14 per cent from Commerce and 6 per cent each from Arts and Science backgrounds.

The new cohort of PhD has 12 women participants, making up over 50 per cent of the current batch, says IIM Bangalore. Further, a couple of the students are from IIMB’s NSR Pre-doc programme and the Mahatma Gandhi National Fellowship (MGNF) programme; a few are from the start-up sector while some have worked in the defense sector.
