The National Institutional Ranking Framework’s (NIRF) came out with a list of the top engineering colleges in the country, the ‘India Ranking Report 2016’. The list was officially released by Union Human Resource Minister Smriti Irani in March, 2016. The criteria followed by the Core Committee while ranking the colleges was based on five criteria — teaching, learning and resources, research and professional practices, graduation outcomes, outreach and inclusivity, and perception. Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay has emerged as the best engineering college in west India, with a pan-India ranking of No. 2. It is followed by IIT Gandhinagar, with a pan-Indian ranking of No. 8, and Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology Surat, with all-India ranking of No. 15.
