The National Institutional Ranking Framework’s (NIRF) came out with a list of the top engineering colleges in the country, the ‘India Ranking Report 2016’. The list was officially released by Union Human Resource Minister Smriti Irani in March, 2016.
The criteria followed by the Core Committee while ranking the colleges was based on five criteria — teaching, learning and resources, research and professional practices, graduation outcomes, outreach and inclusivity, and perception.

Even though the frameworks for ranking are more or less same,methodologies for the ranking system remain specific to their domains, the NIRF states.

Given here is a list of the top engineering colleges in west India.
Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay has emerged as the best engineering college in west India, with a pan-India ranking of No. 2. It is followed by IIT Gandhinagar, with a pan-Indian ranking of No. 8, and Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology Surat, with all-India ranking of No. 15.
