Amid speculation over actor Madhuri Dixit joining the BJP and contesting the Lok Sabha election from Mumbai North West constituency came a special award announcement on Monday by the Central government. From the IFFI stage in Goa, Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur announced ‘Special Recognition for Contribution to Bharatiya Cinema’ Award for Madhuri Dixit. “An icon across the ages, Madhuri Dixit has graced our screens with unparalleled talent for four incredible decades,” posted Thakur ahead of the ceremony. The actor was recently photographed with Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar at the Wankhede Stadium during the cricket World Cup semi-final.

Spelling It Out

The Mahan Dal, which has once again joined hands with the Samajwadi Party (SP) for Madhya Pradesh elections, is spelling out its allegiance to the old ally with a smart “cut and paste” job in Uttar Pradesh. The Keshav Dev Maurya-led party has started an exercise to make spelling changes in its slogan that it had written on the walls in UP for Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), to which it had extended its unconditional support in June this year. The original slogan — “Mahan Dal ne thana hai, Basapa (BSP in Hindi) ko jitana hai (Mahan Dal has taken a pledge to ensure BSP’s win)” — is being tweaked to read — “Mahan Dal ne thana hai, Sapa (Samajwadi Party in Hindi) ko jitana hai” — a promise for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Digital Push

During his visit to the International Trade Fair, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya went vocal for local. He purchased cotton garments from the Tribes India stall. While making a payment through UPI, the minister said the interface has created a revolutionary impact on digital transactions in the country. UPI payments were greatly appreciated by many foreign delegates during the G20 summit earlier this year. At the trade fair, the minister visited the health pavilion and also distributed Ayushman Bharat cards.
