A pocket edition of the Constitution in red-black cover published by Lucknow based Eastern Book Company (EBC) is now a ubiquitous sight in political circles. With Congress leaders Mallikarjuna Kharge and Rahul Gandhi waving the copy every now and then during their campaigning and in the press conferences, it is learnt that the sales of the sleek copy of the Constitution has shot up.
According to sources, the version, in its 10th edition now, has already sold over 5,000 copies in half of this year while its earlier versions sold roughly the same number of copies in one full year. The EBC version is authored by Supreme Court senior advocate Gopal Sankaranarayanan.
Group Discussion
Newly elected Congress MP from Amethi, Kishori Lal Sharma, who defeated former Union minister Smriti Irani of the BJP, was recently discussed in a WhatsApp group of a posh South Delhi residential society as the members celebrated his victory, it is learnt. Reason? Sharma had stayed in the society for eight years and people shared a “non-political” message to celebrate the former resident’s political leap.
Delhi Central
State Bhawans and Western Court MP hostel in Delhi are buzzing with the presence of several newly-elected members of Parliament. Some MPs are also learnt to be staying at five-star hotels in central Delhi. And, with the new Council of Ministers sworn in on Sunday evening, renovations of the Lutyens’ Delhi’s bungalows have already been planned. The CPWD has started the process to spruce up the ministerial bungalows by issuing a slew of tenders for the “upgrade”.
Andhra Vibes
With the Chandrababu Naidu-led TDP playing a key role in government formation, all pending issues related to Andhra Pradesh have again come into focus. Apart from the demand for a ‘special status’ to the state, some low-key issues concerning the state are also in the limelight.
For instance, the National Institute of Open Schooling, which comes under the Ministry of Education, had closed down its regional centre at Visakhapatnam last year. Now, the people in the corridors of Shastri Bhawan, that houses the Education ministry, are wondering whether the Visakhapatnam Centre will be reopened.
