Supreme Court judge Justice Bela M Trivedi retires on June 6 but her last working day is May 16. The farewell is being held early as Justice Trivedi is leaving for the US to attend a family event. Sources said the tickets were booked well in advance in expectation of the Supreme Court vacation period starting early. The vacation (now called partial working days) starts from May 26 this year compared to May 20 last year.
Six months after unexpectedly losing the Haryana election to the BJP, the faction-ridden state Congress may finally have a legislative party leader soon. Sources said there is a high likelihood that the party leadership’s choice will be veteran leader and former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda.
As part of the plans to send wild tigers to Cambodia to help revive its extinct big cat population, India will host a Cambodian delegation at Tamil Nadu’s Mudumalai Tiger Reserve to inform them about forest and wildlife management practices. The group of about 10-12 Cambodian officials will be hosted over the next few days at the picturesque wildlife park in the Nilgiris, it is learnt. The collaboration has been in the works for a while. Another Cambodian delegation had earlier visited Panna Tiger Reserve to learn about its tiger reintroduction project.
