At the time of the incident, the girl was with her grandmother at the house. A day before her Class X results, a 16-year-old girl was found hanging at her house in Surat’s Bhestan area, police said.
Nupur Gopalbansh was a resident of Shivnagar Society in Pandesara, police said. She is suspected to have ended her life, fearing she might fail the exams.
Pandesara police Inspector N K Kamaliya said, “The girl was under mental pressure due to the exam results. We have taken the statement of her parents and neighbours and found that her parents were good to her. She is suspected of taking the drastic step due to the fear of failing in the exams.” The grieving family could not check her result, as they were deep in shock, police said.
On Wednesday night when her father, Jignesh, went to her room to call her for dinner, he found his daughter hanging in the room, police said.
Jignesh, who works in a private bank in Surat as a recovery agent, then informed neighbours and police. Nupur’s mother had gone to Palghar in Maharashtra.
