Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla Tuesday reviewed security arrangements for the upcoming G20 meeting in Srinagar. Director of Intelligence Bureau Tapan Deka and senior security officials of the Union territory and central security agencies were present at the review.
The home secretary also reviewed security arrangements for the upcoming Amaranth Yatra. The 62-day pilgrimage will begin on July 1. Bhalla was also apprised of the several developmental projects in Jammu and Kashmir.
A senior security official said the review focused on “apprehensions of potential threats surrounding the G20 meetings in Srinagar.” Militant attacks in Rajouri and Poonch have also drawn concern from the security agencies as the UT prepares to host G20 delegates.
G20’s tourism working group is scheduled to meet in Srinagar between May 22 and May 24. The meet is expected to be one of the most high-profile events hosted in Jammu and Kashmir recently. The meetings will take place at the Sher-e-Kashmir International Conference Centre. Delegates will visit Gulmarg in North Kashmir during their stay.
Director General of J&K Police Dilbag Singh, the ADGPs of Kashmir and Jammu, and senior officials of the J&K administration were present at the meeting.
