The Pune Zilla Parishad (ZP) has finally started the process of derecognising schools which as per the student audit carried out in 2011 had inflated. The schools had wrongly shown the inflated numbers though they had less than 50 per cent attendance. Following this,the government had ordered derecognition of such schools.
As many as five schools had been found with less than 50 per cent attendance in Pune district.
We have formed a committee to derecognise schools. The committee consists of six members from various fields, said D Kurhade,ZP education officer (primary).
The committee had a meeting last month where it was decided to issue notices to these five schools. After we issue notices,the committee members will inspect the schools and see if they still have less than 50 per cent attendance. After the committee compiles its report,it will be sent to higher authorities. Based on the report,the decision to derecognise schools will be taken, added Kurhade.
Among the five schools,two are from Pune Municipal Corporation and one each from Daund,Indapur and Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation.
The committee on Thursday will decide guidelines on basis of which the schools will be inspected.
We may not derecognise school only on the basis of less attendance. If schools are doing better and they comply with the ten norms of Right to education Act and all other guidelines,then we will not recommend derecognition, said a member.
