Kolkata-based band Zoo,who recently released their album The Attic Session on a pendrive,is all set for their debut performance in the city
What happens when four musically inclined individuals find themselves lonely in a metropolitan city? In the case of these four musicians, they form a band and sing about urban woes. Tanya Sen,the ‘desi Beyonce’,Bodhisattwa Ghosh, the poetic lyricist-guitarist-keyboardist-programmer,Proshanto Mahato, the ‘bass master’ and Rohit Nandi, the killer drummer came together in mid 2010 in Kolkata to form Zoo,an alternative rock band that plays only original compositions. After releasing their debut album,The Attic Sessions,on a pen drive, the kolkata-based band is all set for their first performance out of their hometown they perform at High Spirits,Koregaon Park,on October 5.
The first track on their album,Blinding Light,is also the first composition they completed as a band. It is about a person who come home to a room full of loneliness and finds himself in the shadow of the bright and blinding lights of the urban world outside. All four of us are like soul mates. Out thought process is so similar that we generally agree on the subject before even speaking about it verbally. We all felt a void that the urban lifestyle brought in,we were always surrounded by people, noise and lights, but inside we are lonely, silent and dark, says Ghosh. However, their songs are speak of happy times, like Rain,in which they sing about self realisation and temporary salvation that the mid-summer night’s rains brings to the inhabitants of a hot and humid metro city like Kolkata.
