The hunger strike by primary teachers of Zilla Parishad schools entered the third day on Friday as they protested against not receiving their joining letters in spite of getting the appointment letters in June,2010.
About 90 of them are still to get joining orders,of which four are on hunger strike for the last three days. They have decided to take out their mock funeral procession on Monday if no decision is taken by the government till then.
As per an earlier government resolution (GR),the last date for the teachers to join was May 31. However,a later GR pushed the date to August 31. Over 700 teachers were selected through the CET conducted in 2010 by the Maharashtra Rajya Pariksha Parishad, but these teachers are yet to get the joining orders.
Our mock funeral procession will start from new Zilla Parishad office to the Central building. It will signify what will happen to us if we dont start working soon and get the salaries they were to get rightfully, said one of the protesting teachers.
Dattatray Shendkar, district education officer,Pune (for Primary education),said,We have already given them a letter, citing our problem and requesting them to withdraw the hunger strike. As all senior officials are occupied in the Assembly session in Nagpur, were unable to take a quick decision. We also need to wait for the promotions in the department, after which vacancies are created and new recruits join.
