A petition seeking continuation of the zero loadshedding model for Pune,Thane and Vashi was given an extension for a month. V P Raja,Chairman of Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) in the order has allowed an extension for a month and directed the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL)to submit a comprehensive petition that gives details of the power utility’s incentives to add to the electricity generation capacity.
The order states that steps should be taken by MSEDCL to incentivise decentralised additional power generation capacity and the roadmap for the same. MSEDCL should also take action to minimise load shedding in its licensed area of supply,and the roadmap for the same. The road map of MSEDCL to supply continuous power to the consumers should specify the milestones to be achieved with time frame.
The order also directs the MSEDCL to ensure the appointment of a franchisee through competitive bidding process. Presently the Tata Power Company has been appointed as an interim franchisee for procuring power for Pune. MSEDCL has also been directed to submit the data for increase in power availability due to global meltdown and ground water exploration,and at the same time considering the fact that additional power will be required for the agricultural crops.
The Commission directed the petitioner to submit their comprehensive Petition within one month,by June 30. After the MERC receives the comprehensive petition by MSEDCL then it will issue an order in the matter of approval of reliability charges to be recovered from Pune consumers. The MERC has also warned that if the MSEDCL fails to submit a comprehensive petition by June 30 then the order will be discontinued from July 1.
