Of mommy and music

In Bollywood, dancing and singing are considered aspects as important as acting. Madhuri Dixit-Nene has established her credentials in two out of the three departments, but she had never crooned until recently when the director of Gulab Gang suggested that she try it out. A sequence in the first half of her upcoming film needed the actor’s character to break into a song and director Soumik Sen suggested that she lend her own voice to it. When she arrived at the studio with her mother, not only did the actor record the song, but had her mother,Snehlata Dixit,in the background, singing alongside. Now,that would make for a sweet gift on Mother’s Day from the actor to her mom.

One for the roadies

He won himself a huge following with his debut film Jaane Tu…Ya Jaane Na. But everyone wondered if Abbas Tyrewala was a one-hit wonder when he made Jhootha Hi Sahi. His true fans, however, soon forgot and forgave the debacle and have since been waiting for the director to announce his third film. For those who wait in high hopes, word is out that after he tried to launch wife Pakhi’s acting career with Jhootha Hi Sahi, the director is now planning to give Roadies producer-presenter Raghu Ram and his co-anchor Rannvijay Singh a break as leading men in his next. The two men are his long-time pals (his wife Sugandha Garg played Shaleen, one of the six friends in Jaane Tu) and the industry believes that his decision may not be a wise one. It remains to be seen if the industry’s hunch is correct or if the Roadies boys can lend the film their midas touch.
