Jewelled berets, dark lipstick, slick hairstyles, bow ties, suspenders and a distinct style of the elegant era of the 20s took over High Spirits,Koregaon Park,as it recently celebrated its eighth anniversary. Like every year, the party was based on a theme. While last year saw guests walk the red carpet in an Oscar-themed party, this year, owner Khodu Irani upped the glam quotient further by picking the recent film,The Great Gatsby,as the partys theme.
Everything, from the borders on the table cloth to the design on the vases, was inspired by the film. When I walked through the entrance,I felt like I went back in time to the 20s. DJs Mad Boy and Mink were also dressed like characters from the film. It was truly like one of the parties Gatsby throws in the film, said Abhir Agarwal,a guest at the party.
The venue also featured a vintage bullet near the photo booth with the words High Anniversary written in The Great Gatsby style, with a campaign tower and a specially designed cake in the backdrop.
Its very important for us to make that effort so that guests also make that effort. It was more than I hoped for. The characters everyone played was outstanding. Although I dont think that Pune,on the whole,is ready for theme parties, but over the years,we have had a bunch of regulars who go that extra mile to dress up for theme parties, said Irani.
In April, the city had hosted a party themed on Alice in Wonderland at One Lounge where the guests were requested to dress in their quirky best and it was mandatory to flaunt a hat. The venue was decorated with cut-outs of characters from the fantasy film featuring Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter. After our successful Mad Stupid Halloween Party in 2011,a lot of people asked us when we were going to do something new. So Rohit Jacob from Creme events and myself thought of coming up with something fun, said Vinay Pawar, owner of Destiny of Sounds,an event management company. The party doubled up as his birthday bash too. The movie is one of my favourites. The party, just like the wonderland Alice travels to,was a fantasy. The décor was quirky, colourful and fun,and the guests participated with enthusiasm, he added.
Twenty-three-year-old Jonathan David plans to organise a party based on the latest Star Wars movie for his birthday on July 20. I have been a Star Wars junkie since childhood. I am going to dress like Spock and it will be absolutely mandatory for all my friends to dress like their favourite characters from the film, said David, who is pursuing an MBA degree at Indira College.
