The ruling Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) in the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), along with the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), its new partner in the civic body, has managed to win 12 of the 15 posts of chairpersons of regional ward committees.
The elections for the chairpersons of the ward committees were held on Wednesday. Seven chairpersons were elected unopposed, while voting for the remaining was held in the general body meeting hall.

Two ward committees will be held by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) while the Congress has managed to be voted to chair only one ward committee, after going it alone in the elections. The Shiv Sena failed to be able to get any of its members to be the head of a ward committee.
In 2014, six NCP members were elected as chairpersons while the MNS had only one ward committee in its control. The new alliance has gained one ward committee for the NCP while the MNS was the major gainer, with a total of five ward committees to be held by its corporators.
The change in the political make-up in PMC was a result of the Congress voting against the NCP for the post of director in PMPML, as a protest over being denied the post of chairperson of standing committee. The NCP and MNS also shared the post of chairperson of various civic panels to keep the Congress out of power.
The NCP leaders elected as chairperson of ward committees are Rohini Chimte of Aundh, Sanjila Pathare of Nagarroad, Anil Tingre of Yerawada, Vijaya Kapre of Hadapsar, Nanda Lonkar of Kondhwa-Wanowrie, Usha Jagtap of Sahakarnagar and Bharati Kadam of Dhankawadi.
From MNS, Jayashree Marne of Kothrud, Bhagyashri Dangat of Warje-Karvenagar, Sangeeta Tikone of Dhole-Patil, Priya Gadade of Tilakroad and Asha Sane of Gholeroad were elected.
BJP leaders Kavita Vairage and Dilip Kalokhe will be the chairperson of Bibewadi and Vishrambaugwada ward committees respectively. Congress corporator Avinash Bagawe was elected as chairperson of Bhavai Peth ward committee.
