Wanted,new waste plan

Activists and cantonment board members are pressing for disposal of garbage on scientific lines. Secretary of the Khadki Citizen’s Forum,Pandurang Garsund said he has written to the KCB to take waste collection to the doorstep of people. “Earlier,the board was plying large trucks to collect garbage. Later it introduced smaller tempos. But we are seeking that instead of these Ghanta Ghadis stopping at the corner of housing colonies,they should carry out door-to-door collection. House-to-house collection of waste is needed,” Garsund said.

He said he had sought segregation of bio-degradable and non-biodegradable waste. KCB member S L Kamble said,“Segregation needs to be done scientifically. We also need to work out a soloution to the objection by Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) that the cantonment board will not be allowed to dump waste at Kasarwadi trenching ground.”
